Charlotte, North Carolina - Betty Jean Tilman Cox departed this life Saturday, December 18, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.
Born in 1924, Betty was 97 years young, a vivacious wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Besides her Church and Family, music was her lifelong passion. In sharing her love of music, Betty's favorite pastime was being the Director of Music Makers - a little ragtime band that entertained the elderly at homes and facilities throughout the Charlotte area.
Betty enthusiastically embraced life and learning, always having the desire and courage to try anything, from riding in Nascar racecars to earning the title of Techno Granny.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, George G Cox, Jr. She leaves on earth her children, Susan Prescott (Roy), Bob Cox (Debbie), Betsy Mayer, Edith Cox, Bill Cox (Darlene), grandchildren Bryan Mayer (Jamie), Tyler Prescott (Lanier), Carrie Prescott (Jorge Lagares), Corey Prescott (Cory), Melissa Cox and Brad Cox (Rachael). She also leaves behind 11 wonderful great grandchildren.
A visitation for Betty will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Wilson Funeral & Cremation Service, 5301 Albemarle Road, Charlotte, NC 28212, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM.
Memorials can be made to Hickory Grove United Methodist Church Building Fund or We Care/Snackpack program

I AM SO VERY SORRY TO HEAR THIS MOST SAD NEWS--WHICH ,QUITE FRANKLY, CAUGHT ME BY SURPRISE-EVEN THOUGH I KNEW [IN GENERAL] OF HER AGE--SHE WAS YOUNG AT HEART -SPRY-AND SO ADORABLE -I ALWAYS THOUGHT OF HER AS THE " YOUNGSTER " WHO LIVED SORT OF BEHIND ME IN LANSDOWNE---I KNOW YOUR LOVE FOR HER, WILL OUTLAST THE SADNESS YOU NOW FEEL AND THAT HER MEMORY WILL BE A BLESSING TO Y'ALL---GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU AND I SEND MY LOVE AND SINCERE SYMPATHY

Your Mom was a 2nd Mom to me growing up-I learned many things from her. She was strong, loving, and smart. Her smile and laugh were contagious. She also raised 5 fantastic kids! What a wonderful life we will celebrate for years to come.
