Betty Gray Obituary

GRAY
Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed into the arms of our Lord on October 8, 2012 at 9:20 PM after a 10 year courageous battle with Parkinson. Betty was born to Julia and Robert E. Wight on November 6, 1933 in Somerville, Texas. She grew up in San Antonio and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1950. On November 17, 1951 she married her high school sweetheart Edward Gray and would have celebrated 61 wonderful years of marriage this November.
Betty retired from Kelly AFB in 1993 with 26 years of service. After she and Ed retired they traveled the United States, Canada and Mexico with their dear friends Jo and Paul LeBleu. Betty and Jo were avid shoppers, the shop till you drop type. She enjoyed all kinds of crafts; her favorite was making costume jewelry. She was a country music fan; Branson, Missouri and Nashville, Tennessee were favorite places to visit. Betty was a great wife, mom and grandmother and enjoyed her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Jr. and grand daughter Shawna Gray. She is survived by her husband Ed Gray, sons Edward C. (Sam) Gray Jr. wife Geralyn (Gerri), Robert D. Gray wife Cheryl, Randy C. Gray wife Casey, grand children Kyle Gray (girlfriend, Kaci Wilson), Megan Gray, Chance Gray and Lexi Gray.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Odyssey Hospice House for their kindness and care of Betty and the family during this difficult time.
Visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home, Friday, October 12, 2012 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 13, 2012, at 2:00 pm in the Sunset Chapel with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Parkinson Research Foundation, www.michaeljfox.org or a charity of your choice.

Betty was one of the family favorites -- all the aunts and uncles just loved Betty. She was always the life of the party and she always made us laugh, just like her late brother Bobbie. I'll never forget her laugh, her sweet smile and beautiful eyes. She was always so kind and friendly to everyone - she was one of those people that everyone likes. To Randy, Bobby, Sam - I last saw your Mom at my own Mother's funeral and although I was sad at the time, she told me how much she loved my Mom and she made me feel much better that day. Although she was wheelchair-bound when I last saw her, she still had that sweet personality that everyone loved. Stay close to your Dad and just know that she is in a better place and we'll all see her again someday. I can only tell you that in time, the worst feelings of loss pass in time. May God be with you all in this time of sorrow.
