Betty Walker Obituary

Walker, Betty Jane Cochran

Betty Jane Cochran Walker, 56, died unexpectedly on June 2, 2013 in Cocoa, Florida. She was born March 7, 1957 in Ithaca, NY, spending her youth in Lansing. As a young adult, she served a stint at Patrick AFB in Cocoa Beach, Florida, a town she grew to love. In 1986, she returned to NY to raise her children alongside her beloved family, which includes all of her biological and "adopted" family and friends. In 2001, Betty returned to Florida where she spent her remaining years. Betty was an extremely talented, hardworking "handyperson" whom hundreds of people relied upon. The art she conveyed through her hands resulted in countless handmade gifts given to family and friends, and, no doubt, will continue to be cherished in her memory. She made a lasting impression everywhere she went. Betty is survived by her father, Dana, and adopted mother, Helen Campbell; sons Gregg and Eric; grandchildren Cameron, Gregg Jr. and Katelyn; brothers Steve, Mike, Dana, John and Rob; sisters Kathy, Shirl, Rose, Mary and Nan; numerous relatives; and best friend and soul-mate Kathy Barker. Predeceased by brother Lee. Words cannot express how badly she is missed. For memorial plans, call Rob at 607-339-9624.

I knew Betty my whole life since she was my older sister by just 11 months. Just a few days before I heard the news she had passed I had discovered an envelope of black & white pictures of us when we were very young. She was a beautiful child with a smile that would touch your heart. That beauty lasted throughout her life. Betty traveled back and forth from Florida to New York to visit our family over the years and kept close through telephone calls. This time when she went 'North' I believe she went straight to Heaven and I pray I'll see her again someday. Betty had so much talent, a generous heart, was a wonderful cook, carpenter and a loving sister. She was always generous is sharing her skills and talents with others. I was reminded of her terrific sense of humor just two days after she passed. I was going through a bin and found the Flying Pig she had given me a long time ago as a joke. It now flies in my picture window and I know that God has another Carpenter Angel in His midst. My new granddaughter was born on June 21st and when I held her for the first time I saw Betty's face in one of her expressions. It was a peaceful look. Betty loved her family, children and grandchildren and will live on in memories and we will all be sure that her Legacy of Love continues. See you again my Sister. I miss you and am thankful for the 55 years we knew each other. Love Always, Shirl

My sister Betty was such an awesome person. Our family was quite a mess at times, but she always knew how to put the caos back to peace. She was like a Mother we never had growing up. Rest in peace my darlig Sister. You taught us how to love.

You could not be in a bad mood around Betty. She has the most radiant smile and sense of humor. I was blessed to have spent nearly all of my childhood around Betty and her family. All who knew and loved Betty can expect to be greeted at the gates with an all encompassing hug and smile. I look forward to seeing her, again one day. You are loved and missed, my chosen sister. My thoughts and prayers and hugs to her family and friends. I will see you all at the Memorial July 7. Love, Angie

I was never blessed enough to have known Betty (BJ) however in knowing her sister Kathy and having felt the love of her other sisters and brothers I know that she must have been a very special person. May you all find peace and comfort in knowing how proud she is of you and how she is happily now being God's "handy angel".

Betty was THE MOST AMAZING person! She was the best friend that you could ever hope for. She was amazingly talented and taught me how to hand dye material, make stained glass, mosiac tiling and engrave on wood.I now know how to grout! She gifted us with handmade, engraved toy boxes, granite hand painted stones with words of great wisdom. I will always treasure the many letters she had written me. I saved every one of them. She had a way of making me feel comfortable in my own skin when I didn't. She was kind and generous and the world lost a beautiful soul. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to her family and loved ones. I know she will be watching over you from heaven where I am sure she has a front row seat. Love you always Betty..Deb
