Bettye Beason Obituary

Bettye Lou Duffy Beason, 90, went to "glory" with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, August 25, 2018. Bettye was born July 19, 1928 in Matagorda, Texas, to Helen Gilbert Duffy and Amos Emory Duffy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 55 years, Lew Rollin Beason, her brothers, Jack and Edward Duffy, her sister Trude Ann Brandon and son, Scott Rollin Beason. Bettye is survived by her sons: William Joseph Beason and wife Linda, Ted Gilbert Beason and wife Rhonda, Ryan Andrew Beason and wife Carol, grandchildren, Daniel Scott Beason and wife Emile, Stephanie Lynn Beard and husband Mathan Beard, Wyatt Joseph Beason and Sarah Elizabeth Beason.

Bettye attended Southwestern College in Georgetown majoring in Christian Education. She served as Church Secretary at St. Paul's United Methodist, the Director of the Ed White Youth Center at Seabrook United Methodist, Christian Education Director at Friendswood United Methodist and Seabrook United Methodist, and the Director of the Senior Citizen Center at Seabrook United Methodist. She started working for the United Methodist Church in 1952 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in downtown Houston. She continued working for the United Methodist Church, in one capacity or another, until her retirement from Seabrook United Methodist Church in 2008.

She was proud to have raised four eagle scouts and was very involved in the Scouting Programs in Alabama, Pennsylvania and Texas.

She was an active member of PEO and United Methodist Women and served as chapter presidents for both organizations. In PEO, she belonged to chapters in five different states. As a result of being a PEO member for more than 50 years she earned the title of a PEO "Golden Girl"". She was also a member of the Texas Conference of Christian Educators.

During her last weeks at the hospital and in hospice care at "The Crossings" in League City, where she was a resident, a group of caring devoted friends, some from out of state, organized a schedule of around-the-clock care. When the friends were asked why they provided such care they responded, "It was an honor, she would have done the same for us". She had good friends because she was a good friend.

Her memorial service took place at Seabrook United Methodist Church at 3300 Lakeside Drive, Seabrook, TX, 77586 on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. The service was a "Celebration of Life".

Donations may be made to The Crossings Chapel Fund. Checks can be sent made payable to "The Crossings" and sent in care of Reverend Paula Kirby, Seabrook United Methodist Church 3300 Lakeside Drive, Seabrook, TX. 77586. If you care to send flowers, her favorite were green carnations.

Dearest Betty I made it to your Crossings what a glorious place it is. I love the way that you would remind the minister not to run over on the sermon whenever the Houston Oilers had a game on. From the audience would come your gentle voice suggesting that there was a game today. I find comfort in knowing where you were in your final days. You were like a second mom not only to me but too many others. You had such a wonderful way of spotting those who perhaps were not brave enough to step forward and ensured that all were included. Always in our hearts and memories you will be thank you for so much. In Christ-Bari & Jackie

that each was included or had the opportunity . You have left your visions on the heart of many. I know your family carry so many memories and so much love. Always in our hearts and our memories Jackie

It has taken this long to even sign this book. As we looked at photos we had taken together with my family and with you--the grandchildren pointed to you Dear One--so young then--Charlie now 5, pointed to you. They felt your profound spirit and it was imprinted on their hearts. Tears flow--you knew my heart and encouraged, loved, touched, accepted, watched over and inspired so many "Just the way we are". Miss you-- thankful you are free from pain. You will be proud to learn Seabrook UMC is being supported successfully during these days. All of you who so influenced me (and many others) are Angels- Spiritual Warriors now preparing Our Welcome-- "Gone to Glory" yet forever walking with us. God truly blessed me and mine when you reached out to me.

I first met Bettye in 1977 when I was 13. I was friends with Natt Vaughn and was in the Seabrook Chancel choir. She welcomed me into the youth group. Later she designated me as the soloist on the many youth retreats to Camp Tejas. Ted and I were once councilors. Ryan and I were both in youth group and later were in Natt's summer musical, Carousel in 1981.. l remember when Bettye came to work at Friendswood Methodist Church where she continued with the youth retreats.. I also fondly remember the many times she and I talked when I had troubles in my life. To Ryan, Ted.... I will never forget your mother... a very kind, beautiful, and loving woman.... Danny Ryan

To the family of Ms. Bettye: I am so very sorry for your loss. I was so very saddened to recently hear of her passing. Ms. Bettye and her husband lived in the apartment under mine in Seabrook for several years and I loved her like a second mother. When my daddy passed away and my mother came to live with me the first person I introduced her to was Ms. Bettye. They became very good friends until my mothers passing. I have always stated that I don't know what my mother would have done without her. What a beautiful and wonderful lady she was. I know she was welcomed to Heaven with open arms! I shall miss her. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time.

My favorite memories of Bettye include how she made me feel. Welcomed. Remembered. Always glad to say hello. Valued. Loved.
She loved to reminisce about the time my son Jake and her granddaughter Sarah were part of a live nativity at Seabrook Methodist. They were likely 3 or 4 years old. Jake was a shepherd. I don't recall who was officially designated as Mary, but Sarah and another little girl were both quite fond of the doll representing baby Jesus. A little tussle ensued during the service. :)
I feel blessed to have known Bettye. I will always remember her love and will strive to love others as she did.

My sincere condolences. May the God of all comfort strengthen you all during this difficult time. Rom 15:4
