William (Bill) Arthur Bickerton died peacefully on January 22, 2026, in his home in Aurora, CO, in his wife's arms. He was born in Trinidad, CO, on March 16, 1940, to William Andrew Bickerton and Madelene Mathews Bickerton. He graduated from Trinidad High School in 1958 and joined the US Air Force where he served for four years. Basic Training was at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. From there he was stationed in South Dakota, Korea, Virginia and New Jersey. While stationed at Bedford Air Force Station on Apple Orchard Mountain in Virginia, Bill met Barbara Jean Stanley in the summer of 1961. They were married on March 2, 1962, and moved to Colorado the following September, where they raised their children. After working for the Martin Marietta company, he was hired as a firefighter with Littleton Fire Department in 1964 where he served for 31 years, retiring as Battalion Chief in 1995. Following retirement Bill and Barb traveled extensively throughout the US full-time in an RV for five years then bought a house in Albuquerque, NM. While in Albuquerque, Bill taught elementary students in Rio Rancho Public Schools. In 2005, they moved to their final home in Aurora, CO, to be close to family. Bill again worked with elementary students in Aurora Public Schools. In his retirement, he enjoyed time with friends and family, He felt especially blessed to live long enough to spend time with great grandsons. Bill also enjoyed reading and listening to music.
Bill is survived by his wife Barbara of 63 years, children, William J, Robert L (Carol), and Brenda J. Bickerton; grandchildren Loren (Te’a) Bickerton, Brenda B. Bickerton, Brandon Bickerton, Brenna (Wesley) Carroll, Blair Bickerton and great-grandsons Xavier and August Bickerton.
Inurnment is in Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 S. Sheridan Blvd. Denver, CO 80236 on February 11, 2026 @ 11:30 AM.
Please arrive at least 15 minutes early. We only have a limited time at the cemetery for all the honors. Please see the map attached for the staging area. When everyone is staged, a representative of Fort Logan will lead the procession to the site.
Celebration of Life immediately following at Tin Cup Bar and Grill at Aurora Hills Golf Course; 50 S Peoria St; Aurora, CO 80012, until 5pm.
