Bob Winter

Today, while I was reading through the Berklee Alumni magazine, I suddenly saw the obituary of Professor Bob Winter. He was my private lesson teacher during my first year at Berklee. I met Bob Winter 45 years ago when a former Boston Sailing Center student invited me to meet Bob and to hear him play. I met a man whose dedication to his music was astounding. After teaching modern jazz piano all day to students at Berklee, he'd rush to play in a magnificent room of mirrors and chandeliers (on Milk Street?) until it closed for the night. I was a student of Bob´s at Berklee in 1992. He was the sweetest piano teacher ever. For a young woman from the other side of the planet, who was all alone in this great big country, it was always comforting to have a teacher like Bob. Someone calm and kind. My condolences to his family.

Bob was a wonderful man and played the piano at the Four Seasons Hotel and i worked with him on Friday Evenings and i used to love to hear him play my favorite songs: Two for the Road and Somewhere in Time. Love you Bob.

Bob was a great musician and pianist, admired by virtually all that heard him play. He was also a great teacher; he helped so many young pianists. I recently spoke to the young, phenomenal Colombian jazz pianist Jesus Molina, who studied with Bob at Berklee, who credited him with his success as a pianist and composer/arranger.
