Bobby Joe Nelson

Atlanta, GA - Bobby Joe Nelson passed away in peace on Thursday, February 6, 2019. His story started on October 28, 1931 in Liberty, SC where he was born to the late, Edgar & Nellie Nelson and became a little brother to Frances Nelson.

During his younger years, Bob had a talent and passion for baseball. He went on to serve in the Air Force. He married the love of his life, Barbara McPherson, in 1967. He then became a loving father to his son, Joey Nelson. Bob was instrumental in the startup and initial development of several leasing departments in banks, throughout Atlanta, GA.

Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; and his parents; and his sister, Frances Nelson. He is survived by his son, Joey Nelson (wife, Laura); granddaughter, Isabella; and his nephew, Terry King (wife, Donna).

Bob was a compassionate man with a kind spirit. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him.

Memorial Services will be held at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, SC on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 2:00pm, with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in his honor to the Wounded Warrior Project at PO Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517 or to St. Jude at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
