Calvin Barwis Obituary

Calvin Guild Barwis passed away April 13th at the age of 78 in Dunwoody, Georgia. ""Cal"" was born in Glen Falls, NY on February 19, 1939. The son of Calvin Elwood Barwis and Josephine Guild Barwis, Cal graduated from Palmerton High School in 1957, and proudly competed as a member of the Blue Bomber team that won the 1956 Pennsylvania State Basketball Championship. He attended Pennsylvania State University and was a beloved member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. Graduating in 1961 with a Bachelor's of Science in Business, Cal married his high school sweetheart Barbara (Reber) Barwis. Cal went on to a successful 40+ year career in chemical sales retiring as the National Sales Manager of Petrochemical Sales for Georgia Gulf, Corp. Cal and Barb spent most of their adult lives in Quakertown, PA; Kingwood, Texas; and Peachtree Corners, Georgia.
Cal was a fighter to the end having survived numerous health conditions before succumbing to a stroke the night before he passed away at Emory St. Joseph Hospital. Some of his fondest accomplishments included being President of the Quakertown Borough Council, serving presidency terms for Jaycees and Lions Club Chapters, and playing some of the best golf courses in the country, culminating in his hole in one at the 17th hole of Deerwood Country Club in Kingwood, TX. Above all, Cal found his greatest pride and satisfaction in the successes of his children and the happiness of his marriage.
Cal is survived by his wife of more than 55 years, Barbara, sons Robert (Koren) Barwis of Ashburn, VA and James (Cheryl) Barwis of Atlanta, GA, and daughter Jane Barwis of Alexandria, VA. Survivors also include grandchildren John, Robert, Alexandra, Calvin, Sarah, step-grandchild Ruby, great grandchildren Bridgette and Savannah. Cal is also survived by brother John (Jane) Barwis of Plymouth, MA and two nieces, Bari Anne (Barwis) Pender and Mollie Jane (Barwis) Averyt. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Stephen and daughter-in-law Mary (Robert). He will be deeply missed by family and friends.
