April 12, 2024 Today I was wondering about Carl. The last time I spoke with him, he was working in the Financial Industry in Chicago. Carl & I graduated from Richardson High School in Richardson, Texas together in 1968. I lost touch with Carl & am in shock right now to have just read his obituary. I never cease to remember my friend and graduate school classmate, and fellow Texan, Carl. I regret that my move to Europe at a time of great need in his life meant that it was harder for us to stay in touch. I miss his humor and his caring. May the Lord keep you in Hs care, my friend. -Guy

I was remembering Carl the other day, and his gift for inhabiting, with humor but quite seriously, the thought world and context of the historical figures he studied and on whom he was an authority, above all Philip Melanchthon. Carl was my first friend at Marquette University when I began graduate studies there in 1977. He felt it his obligation and honor to welcome a fellow native Texan and to introduce me and my family to so many students and faculty who would be lasting friends. Carl and I shared a study carrel in the Graduate section of the MU Memorial Library and an office in the Theology Department. Our families spent many happy times together in Milwaukee and we tried to stay in touch after the Maxceys...
