I lived in a fraternity house along with Carl at GWU. Although I never saw him after graduation (I didn't attend any of the fraternity reunions) and spoke to him via telephone only once in all the following years, I remember this: He (and his wife) were smart, funny and interesting. I have always regretted not staying in touch with him.
