Carla Carnes Obituary
Carla was born in Aiken, SC, March 11, 1980, to George and Deborah Koon. She graduated from Lexington High School in 1998 and earned a B.S. in accounting from North Greenville College in 2002.
On July 13, 2002, Carla married Michael Carnes of Greenville, SC. Julia Linen Carnes was born to Carla and Michael on February 6, 2007, in Fargo, ND. Most recently, Carla, Michael and Linen lived in Statesville, NC, where Carla worked as a group fitness instructor and certified fitness trainer. They are members of Cove Church in Davidson, NC.
Carla’s life had an unquestionable impact on everyone who knew her. As a friend, mother and wife she was unparalleled. It is impossible to capture in words what she meant to the lives she affected. Her joy and the life that she presented in every situation was infectious. We are beyond speechless at the void her death has left in our lives, but believe that the short time she spent with us is worth the immense anguish. We celebrate knowing that she is enjoying the nearness and fullness of God and look forward to the day that we see her again.
The family will be receiving friends at Lake Murray Baptist Church, 1001 Hwy 378 West in Lexington, SC, Sunday, August 17, 2008, at 6:00 p.m. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Lexington Baptist Church, West Main Street in Lexington, SC, Monday, August 18, 2008. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family.
In lieu of sending flowers, Michael and Linen would like for everyone to send a donation to the missions work of Carla’s sister, Allison and her husband, Josh. Josh and Allison are working to establish a seminary for pastors in India. They request that you send your contributions to Red Bank Baptist Church, 120 Community Drive, Lexington, SC 29073. Please designate these contributions to the Carla Carnes Missionary Fund.

George and family, I was sad to hear about your loss. I don't always understand why God allows us Christains suffering but he does always promise us comfort and peace. I lost a husband at an early age and had to really pull strength and comfort from the Lord as in my own strength I felt as if I could not go own. But even though you will have many sad times for many years God's strength will get you through. I know I have been there. Losing a child I heard is so much harder. I want you to know I feel for you and will be praying for you. I still have my CD I bought when you came to Chapin Baptist church and I am going to put it in again and hear the songs yall sang and remember Carla. God bless each of you!

Carla came to Clinton,TN at a very young age along with the rest of the Koon's.. Her big beautiful eyes-smiles won all the Sanderson's over just like her sister and brother did too. Pastor George and Deb minister to our family and other families and work in God's vinyard daily...the Kids sang with their Dad .."He's still working on me" to make me what I aught to be...Well, today Carla's work is done...and she's HOME
Her life has touch many more people since you took your family back to South Carolina George in so many ways. It was always fun to see you and be with you, Deb and the kids when you came for revivals here in Tennessee.. We got to see the kids grow up even though they were not with us here in Tennessee...
Memories, of working in God's fields together are still in our minds at times like these... and that work still goes on as I have seen from various people who have posted about Carla....
Angie, Amy, Allison, & Abbe as well as Kathy and I hurt for your loss Koon family...YOU are God's people we have never forgot and Carla is someone who has touched many lives in her short life here on earth..

I don't really know if I have the words to express how shocked and sad I was to hear of Carla's passing.
I met her when i began working at the ymca in the nursery. I waited especially for the moment she would come back to pick up her daughter, just to see Linen's face LIGHT UP so big, she was always so excited to see her mom. Carla was such a fantastic mother, and a genuinely kind person. Every time I saw her, she was happy and smiling, beautiful inside as much as outside.

Michael, Linen and family,
God crossed our paths at Radius Church in SC., for this we are so grateful... Carla and I became closer while Michael was on one of his "mission trips" to Afghanistan, especially when she and I were both expecting. It came time for our family to do mission work as well as start another Radius Church in Tennessee, you and Carla were so supportive! Carla was very encouraging especially with that smile of hers. I can remember sending emails and making phone calls asking her to pray for specifics for our family, each were always answered or replied to with such sincere grace and love. Your family is such a blessing to us and to so many. You have expanded His Kingdom in several ways. What a legacy. Thank you.

We had the pleasure of having Carla & Michael as our next door neighbors in Lexington for a few years. Carla & I quickly became friends b/c as you all know, Carla made friends with anyone and everyone :-) We were trying to get together last weekend but it didn't work out and we said "we'll do it next time"...funny how we always think there will be a "next time." I have been reflecting over the times we shared together and feel so blessed to have had her in my life. She was a daily witness for Christ and everyone who met her was immediately drawn to her big smile and sweet, gentle spirit. Her heart was HUGE and each & every friend & family member meant so much to her. She touched lives in ways I don't think she even realized. I realize now looking back that it was her friendship that led to my rekindling my relationship with Jesus Christ and I will be forever grateful for her influence. Her memory will serve as a constant reminder to honor Him in my daily life and to never take a single day for granted. I love you Carla and am missing you terribly. sooo, i got on facebook a lil while ago && found out that one of my close friends passed away yesterday. her name was carla && she was the greatest person i have ever met in my whole entire life. she was always a role model to me even though she was like 7 years older than me. but age doesnt matter, she was such a terrific person, in fact i cant even think of a word that can describe carla, she was amazing && never had a single enemy!! she was so young && so full of life with a brand new life with a family of her own... my thoughts, prayers, tears, && condolences goes out to carla && the koon family && the carnes family as well. this will be a tough week, but god knew what he was doing when he called her home, he calls all of his angels at the right time that they are needed, && we just have to realize that she isnt gone comepletely, she lives in all of us whose lives she has touched all her years on this earth. so thank you carla for al you did && how many lives you have changed by your short time here on this earth. we will carry you on in our lives forever... you will be greatly && forever missed && forever && always in our hearts!! we love && miss you always!!

Michael, Linen and Family,
Carla and I became friends when she started working at the YMCA. She was such an inspiration to me. She was such a wonderful and beautiful friend and the best mother. We are so saddened by the loss of Carla. Jon and I went to highschool with Allison and Carla. Carla was just such a nice and outgoing person, so easy to be around. We saw her last at Chris and Ashley's wedding and I am so thankful for that. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
