In honor of this wonderful man, I will raise my glass tonight and smile. It would have been so wonderful to have a Dad like this. I grew up without one. How blessed you all were to have him as your leader.

I first met Carl in the late 1970's when I was the Southtowns Correspondent for the Buffalo Evening News and was assigned to cover the Elma Town Board meetings. Though the Board was made up of Republicans, there were sometimes disagreements on how issues facing the Town or on what residents wanted the Board to do. He would listen while everyone made their case before he spoke. He had this ability to offer compromises in a very calm manner. He was seen as the voice of reason. His sense of...

Kirk....I was sorry to read this morning of your brother´s death ....reading his obituary brought back so many memories of growing up in Elma, and the people who helped make it such a great town. It seemed everyone knew everyone back then...the Baker family in particular and all it´s members was,I believe, known by all...reading the names this morning really took me back in time. You and your family will be in my thoughts....

Carl lived in our neighberhood on Olean Road in Holand and as young children in the neighborhood we played together a lot. We all were sad when he moved to Elma.
