Carman Freeburn Obituary
Carman retired as Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy with over 30 year's service. Carmen is originally from Indiana and attended basic training in Williamsburg VA. Carman created his life in Virginia Beach VA with the US Navy which took him to Puerto Rico for a tour. In turn he returned to Virginia Beach (known as his home).
He was a very active leader with VA Beach Lions Club, as well as a member of the American Legion #113, Redwing and Tidewater Golf Associations. Carman had a love for life, friends and strangers. You were always guaranteed to hear a good story when Carman was around.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Chambers (Bill); 2 granddaughters Cara Crane (Jeffrey) and Heather Crosier; beloved niece Tammy Vanderpool (Gary); and very dear friend Kim Haddaway (David). Along with many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.
A celebration of life with military honors for Carman will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N Witchduck Rd, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462. A private burial will occur at Rosewood Memorial Park, 631 North Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VA Beach Lions Club or VA Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Mr. Freeburn was my first VA Beach Little League baseball coach when I was 7 yrs old back in 1965. He was a kind man, a good teacher and made baseball fun. He instilled in me at any early age the importance of team work, learning the fundamentals and the joy of baseball.
He, his son Mark and many of the baseball fathers and sons would get together in the fall and go watch the Norfolk Neptunes football team play at Foreman Field in Norfolk.
Wonderful memories.
I'll miss not seeing Mr. Freeburn sitting in his backyard as I ride past on Norfolk Avenue.

Lion Carman was a longtime Leader of the Virginia
Beach Host Lions Club and was well thought of by members of other Lions Clubs that he worked with
over many years. Lion Carman will be missed.
