Carol Baker Obituary
Carol Baker, of Redlands, California, passed away on May 24, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was born in 1927 in San Bernardino, California to William and Mabel Hildebrand. In 1946, she married Neal T. Baker. Together they built a successful fast food company, Baker's Drive-Thru. She also ran her own interior design firm, Baker's Interiors, for over thirty years, whose clients included Baker's Drive Thru, The Bank of San Bernardino and many residences in the Inland Empire. Neal and Carol were married for sixty-two years until his death in 2008. Active in the Redlands community, she was involved with many organizations. Carol was a member of The First Church of Christ Scientist of Redlands, a docent at Kimberly Crest House and Gardens, a member of Town and Gown of the University of Redlands receiving a Woman of The Year award in 1999, and served on The University of Redlands Board of Trustees. She sponsored many summer programs at The Redlands Bowl, and was a supporter of the Redlands Symphony, A.K. Smiley Library, and The Family Service Association of Redlands. In 2012, Carol was honored with the Alfred H. Smiley Philanthropic Award from the Family Service Association.
Survivors include her daughters, Janise Talley and her husband Terry Talley of Redlands, Janet Walek and her husband Mark Walek of Newport Beach; grandchildren, Jennifer Medeiros and her husband Emery Medeiros of Redlands, Melissa Carol Abdine and her husband Alan Abdine of Austin, Texas and Michael Walek of New York City; great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Neal Medeiros, Paisley and Magnolia Abdine.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to A.K. Smiley Library, Kimberly Crest House and Gardens, Redlands Family Service, or The Redlands Symphony.

With Carol's passing and Neal earlier, we have lost two community leader giants in Redlands, San Bernardino and other communities where they contributed.
Carol's unfailing commitment to her decorating business, to the Baker's
Chain and to her Community and Church should be emulated by others.
Just as important for Carol, and perhaps more important, was her support for Neal in his early Building Development days as well as he lead the development and expansion of "Baker's", and for the raising of her family.
Much more could be said but suffice to say we have lost two special .leaders...and all of the Baker Family are in our prayers.

I'm sorry for the loss of Mrs baker she was a beautiful person and I'm happy to have met her she will be sadly missed but shes up with her husband makin a bakers there for all the others and for her family may god help u all and just remember that they are with u all in spirit and take care of ur family may prayers are with u all and im proud of bein an employee of Bakers may she rest now again sorry for ur loss
