Carol Curran Obituary

Carol Cockrell Curran
1940-2018
Carol Cockrell Curran was born to Virginia Harris Cockrell and Ernest Dashiell Cockrell in Houston, Texas on the 27th of July 1940, and died peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, the 23rd of April 2018.
Carol was a beautiful, magnetic woman who loved her husband and children almost as much as she loved her Savior, Jesus Christ. She walked through her 77 years with humility, courage and a deep-rooted faith that touched everyone she met. Carol never missed an opportunity to spread His peace, and radiated His warmth and unconditional love to all she encountered. Her deep knowledge of scripture was the foundation for her most valued principles, and one of her greatest joys was mentoring young women through Exchanged Life.
Carol had a deep respect for her physicians along the way and was a true visionary in her approach to health, never afraid to speak her mind or to explore holistic approaches to healing.
She was gifted with focused determination and courage, whether riding horseback in her beloved Wyoming hills or creating beautiful spaces for her family to roam outside of the city. Her deep love of horses and the outdoors provided many opportunities for her children and grandchildren to grow in the peaceful beauty experienced only in nature. Carol surrounded herself with devoted friends from every stage in her life and was known for her steadfast compassion and sense of humor. She possessed an uncanny ability to provide truth in a loving way. Carol graduated from The Kinkaid School in Houston in 1958, and attended Randolph-Macon College for one year before rushing back to her beloved University of Texas, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority.
Carol is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, Richard Bernard "Dick" Curran; her children, Laura Jennings Turner and husband John; John Webb Jennings III and wife Christy; Richard Woodruff Curran and wife Karin; Anne Curran White and husband Joe; her grandchildren, John and Grace Turner, Mary B. and Lila Jennings, Hannah, Theo and Eli Curran and Kate White; her brother Ernest Harris Cockrell and wife Janet; and her aunts Carolyn Harris Hynson and Marion Harris Thornberry. Carol is also survived by her nephews, Ernest D. Cockrell and wife Stephanie and David A. Cockrell and wife Estela.
Carol's family would like to extend their deep gratitude to the team of doctors and nurses who worked in conjunction with one another at MD Anderson Cancer Center and Methodist Hospital. Carol especially wanted to recognize the efforts of both Dr. Robert Jackson and Dr. Hagop M. Kantarjian for the dedicated care and compassion she was shown over the past three years.
The family also deeply thanks Tammy Peterson, Pulse Nursing Staff, Houston Hospice, and the many friends who provided comfort and care during Carol's treatment.
Rev. John Barksdale will officiate at the celebration of Carol's life at one o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 26th of April, in the Sanctuary of Second Baptist Church, 6400 Woodway Drive in Houston.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the nearby Deacons Parlor.
Prior to the service, the family will have gathered for a private interment.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to Hyde Park Counseling Center, The Carol C. Curran Fund, Attn: Dr. Nicolle Fitzpatrick, 3901 Speedway, Austin, TX 78751; or to SIRE, 4610 Sloangate Dr., Spring, TX, 77373; or to Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX, 77030.
