Carol Sykes Obituary
Born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts in 1936, Carol graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1954 and proceeded to earn her nursing degree from Berkshire Community College. Carol was married to Everett (Sid) Sykes in 1971 and together, they raised their combined 10 children in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. In 1979 they moved to Southern California where Carol continued her nursing career at Martin Luther King hospital in Anaheim.
Carol was a lifelong member of PEO, first in Pittsfield, and later in Yorba Linda, California where she supported the advancement of women in education. Carol belonged to First United Methodist Church in Pittsfield where she sang in choir and, alongside Sid, supported the youth ministry.
Carol is survived by her husband, Sid, their 10 children and spouses, Ev (Patty), Doug (Cheryl), Amy, Russ (Carol), Faith (Paul), Randy (Terri), Lori (Ken), Hope (Ron), Carole Sue (Jamie) and Kate (Jimmy), 17 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, her brother and his wife, Don & Lina Douglass of Cape Canaveral, Florida, and sister, Barbara Robinson of Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
A special thank you goes out to the men and women of Meridian Gardens in Norco, California for the exceptional care and love they bestowed upon Carol in her final days.
A service to honor Carol will be held in late summer, 2018.
In lieu of flowers or to honor Carol, please send donations to the Alzheimer's Association.
