Carole Christiansen Obituary

Carole Ann Christiansen

Redding, CA

Carole Ann Christiansen, an amazing mother, friend, and woman passed away on May 20th, in Redding, California after a valiant battle with cancer. She was 71 years old. Her firm belief in God is a comfort to her friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Dorothea Colfer from Novato, California. She is survived by her brothers Joseph and Randy Colfer, her sister India Marnell, and her children and spouses Robert Christiansen (Veronica), Amy Coots (Curtis), Brett Christiansen, and her grandchildren Dominic DelliQuadri, and Logan and Noah Coots.

Carole was born in Hampton, Virginia in 1946. She grew up as an airforce military child living in Japan, Texas, and Novato, California. She received her nursing degree from Saint Francis in San Francisco and she was a RN in San Jose for five years. In 1975, Carole and her family moved to Redding, California. She worked at Mercy Hospital as a RN for about two years. Because she had a young family, Carole decided to work as a teacher's aide at Juniper Elementary. She then followed her passion for children's literature and inspired many children to develop literacy and a love for books. She started working at Quinby's Children's Bookstore for five years. She then moved to the Redding Bookstore and managed the children's department for five years. Finally, Carole ran the children's department at Barnes and Noble for 14 years. Many children grew up listening to her storytimes and many parents, grandparents, and teachers appreciated the guidance she gave them to choose books which inspired their children and students.

Carole loved her family and cherished the time that she was able to spend with them. She was happiest when she was surrounded by the people she loved. Her youngest son Brett, did an amazing job helping her this last year in her struggles from the cancer that took her. His everyday love was a great example to her whole family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or a children's book sent in her name to local elementary school libraries.

Services will be held at McDonald's Chapel on June 8th at 11:30 a.m., with a celebration of Carole's life to follow at Lulu's at 1:30 p.m., 2230 Pine Street, Redding, CA.
