Loved playing tennis with her and I treasure her wisdom. Who else would proclaim, "maintain the table" when everyone got up to help clear at a dinner party or, "if you find a bra that fits, buy ten?" I am most grateful to have known her.

We spent the day with Khunie on Little Deer Isle when I worked as a ranger at Acadia in the summer of 1995. My grandmother, Bettie Keating (long-time friend of Khunie), spent the night at the Little Deer Isle house and we retrieved her the next day and were treated to a boat ride around the island by Khunie. Your mother was loved dearly by her Virginia friends. She will be sadly missed. She left indelible memories of her kindness, common sense, face the difficulties and get it done attitude, compassion and her ever present sense of humor. Caroline was an impressive figure, and a practical one at that. Her ability to oversee big houses, whether Brookline or Newton, keep track of three youngsters - and Mike ! - was a kind of model. A good listener, quick to respond to a question or joke, smiling most when things got tough, Ann and I profited from her almost reflexive common sense...and her generosity. As I wrote to Tony Stoneburner, we still have the couch she gave us just after Mike and Tony married us 40 years ago June.
