YORKTOWN, VA - Catherine C. Garrett, 66, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2017. Cathy was born in Leaksville, NC and a Yorktown resident for over 41 years. She worked as a nurse with Riverside Hospital, Home Health Care and Tabb High School. She was a member of Yorkminster Presbyterian Church, a renowned artist, calligrapher as well as a nature lover that enjoyed boating, crabbing or anything to do with the water. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years Dr. Roland G. Garrett, Jr. She is survived by her sisters, Carolyn Spooner (Phil) of Tallahassee, FL and Connie Shepherd of Seattle, WA; nieces Stacey Mayer and her children Cooper, Mallory and Reese, niece Shelby Catherine Shepherd; nephew Brent Spooner and his son Colton; step-children, Brooke Tiller, Bob Garrett and their children, Matthew and Sarah Tiller, Rhett Garrett; son-in-law Nile Wilcocks and his children Garrett, Chase and Blake Wilcocks. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday in Yorkminster Presbyterian Church, followed by a reception in the church social hall. Interment will be private in Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Yorkminster Presbyterian Church, 6218 George Washington Memorial Highway, Yorktown, VA, 23692. Arrangements by Amory Funeral Home, Grafton.

To Cathy's family,

I cannot begin to tell you how much Cathy meant to me. We shared happy memories of our families. We came to terms with getting older and being limited in what we were able to do. We found solace in all the funny & happy memories we shared about our families. Our biggest topic of conversation was living and caring for our little people (Simba & Gracie).

I feel truly blessed to have had Cathy in my life and will miss her terribly. She could always make me laugh. Now she is at peace with the Angels. I am hopeful that she has seen my parents and have assured them I will be seeing them soon.

My heart goes out to Carolyn & Connie and want to tell them how much she adored them.

Cathy, you were the first to welcome my husband and I into the neighborhood a few years ago. You sent us a pizza as we unpacked and shared all of your wonderful stories and pictures of our "Animal House". We were happy to know the house had such a fun and loving history before us. You were the first to congratulate us on our daughter and have always the sweetest to her since. You have been nothing but kind and caring to us and I'm sorry we did not get to spend more time with you. We feel very fortunate to have had you as our neighbor and friend. Lilly will dearly miss playing with Simba and we will all miss you greatly. Prayers and blessings to your family.

Our hearts are broken to know this very sad news that our sweet Cathy Garrett has passed away. Cathy was one of our dearest friends and we have precious memories of Cathy and Roland during wonderfully happy family times together. There just aren't enough words to express how we feel. Cathy was exquisitely beautiful, enoromously talented, overwhelmingly generous and unbelievably kind! We will always love her and never forget her.
