Charles Edward Allen Jr.

My hero, teacher and coach in Bristol TN. I´ll never forget him. He was the first person to show me what it meant to be a true Christian.

Charlie, was a gentleman of the first order. We worked together for many years on TGI Friday's. He was a joy to work with. Funny, conscientious, indefatigable, and always generous, we laughed a lot together. We discussed sports, religion, hiking the Smokey Mountains, and of course, family. One of my favorite memories was being invited to spend a couple of days on the raft he built and auctioned for charity.
He'll be missed by many.

I just heard about Charlie's passing from Ann Wagner. What a loss for the Nashville community. He was an inspiration to all of us at the Tennessee Agricultural Museum. Juggling so many projects at one time, the wonderful ideas that he'd dream up....and everything always for a special cause. As a charter member of the Ag Museum, he helped guide us toward some special projects that are still in place. The tulip poplars that he helped us plant now tower above the Ag Museum...and...

Dear Gracie and family, I just heard of Charlie's passing yesterday from Ruth. My heart sank at the news. My relationship with Charlie and the Allen family goes back a long way. Charlie "Crappy" Allen, Sr. married my wife and me nearly 53 yrs. ago. Tom "Sig" and I were best buddies starting in the 9th grade at Highland Jr. Hi. in Louisville. I spent so much time at the Allen's home on Speed Ave. my Mom once asked me why didn't I take my bed with me. I got to know Mr. Allen, Crappy", Martha...

Charlie is one of my first memories...playing and running around UTN while meeting my student parents for between class ice-cream sandwich breaks. Charlie made what could have readily been a truly tedious and heart-wrenching daily event into a grand adventure everyday.

I knew Coach Allen only one year in middle school where he taught and coached football. Only one year out of my 70 years but he taught me many life lessons and I have not and I will not ever forget him!

To Gracie, Tommie, David, and Ginny, My heartfelt condolences to you all. May God comfort you and may we all rejoice in knowing that Charlie Allen heard these words from our Lord Jesus,"Well done, good and faithful servant." Love in Christ, George

Charlie was the greatest example I have ever known of a man who shared the joy of Christ with everyone. Heaven is surely rejoicing.
