Charles R. Bendick, of Yonkers, NY, died Sunday, November 9, 2014 at St. Joseph's Medical center at the age of 80.
Charles was born February 11, 1934 to Charles A. & Eva (Henderhoff) Bendick in Yonkers, where he was raised & attended school. Charles was a US Army Veteran, stationed in Berlin, Germany for 5 years during the Korean War in the early to mid 1950's. He was also a factory worker at Phelps Dodge, in Yonkers, and a former member of the Yonkers Civil Defense. Charles was also a devout Catholic, attending church regularly, in addition to helping with functions, flea markets and events at several Yonkers churches. He also assisted with the Sharing Community at St. John's Episcopal Church in Getty Square. He was also a fond collector of coins, train sets and watches.
He is survived by his partner, Doris "Betty" Brown, as well as his daughters: Eva (Bernd) Mohaupt of Berlin, Germany; Tina of Milton, NY; and Pauline Staffa of Queens, NY. He is also survived by his sister Emily Bendick, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Charles was also predeceased by 7 sisters, Marion, Louise, Katherine, Ronnie, Helen, Barbara and Pauline; 2 brothers, John and Lee; and 1 daughter, Patricia Ann. Visiting will be at Whalen and Ball Funeral Home on Sunday, November 23rd from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sacred Heart Church in early December, with interment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The date for the church service will be announced by the family after his cremation.
