Charles Staton Black, a beloved figure of the Cunningham community, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 16, 2025, while surrounded by his loving family.
Charles Staton entered this life on April 10, 1936, one of four children to the late Houston and Tennie Black. Following his years growing up in Cunningham and graduating from Montgomery Central High School, he dedicated a great deal of his working life to a career with the Trane Company. His love for the outdoors was evident; he cherished fishing, camping, and boating, always appreciating the beauty of God's grand creation. Over the years, Charles Staton spent much of his time raising and tending cattle.
His contributions extended beyond his professional life at Trane, as he was known for his active involvement in the community. He held membership with the Slayden Masonic Lodge for 60 years where he was a Past Master. He was also a devoted member of Gum Springs Baptist Church, where he enjoyed worship and fellowship in the Lord.
Charles Staton is survived by his beloved wife, Annis Groves Black, and their three daughters, Dr. Tina Black, Tammy Sensing, and Rolanda Morrison. He took immense joy in his grandchildren, Leighana Cilk (Michael), Landon Morrison, and Savannah Black, and was also extremely proud of his great-grandchildren, Marleigh Ann Cilk, Macie Lane Cilk, Zak Fabor, Gauge Fabor, Noah Schurman, and Jonah Schurman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Norene Powers, Stella Faye Moore, and Billy Fred Black. He also mourned the loss of his granddaughter, Chasity Schurman.
The visitation for Charles Staton will be held at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home in Clarksville on Sunday, August 24, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The following day, there will be an additional visitation at Gum Springs Baptist Church in Cunningham from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM. The Celebration of Life service will begin at 2:00 PM at the church, officiated by Bro. Gary Herndon. He will be laid to rest in the Gum Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are James Black, Darnell Black, Ralph Baggett, Donnie Brown, Jeff Pleasant, and Joe Lallo. Honorary pallbearers are Raymond Biter, Frank Biter, and Eric Powers.
As Charles Staton Black is remembered, his legacy of love, family, and appreciation for nature will undoubtedly endure in the hearts of those he touched. Condolences may be made to his family at NaveFuneralHomes.com.

One of a kind. I never heard him say anything unkind about anyone. He loved God, his church, and family unconditionally. I guess God felt it was time to reunite him with those who helped prepare a path before him. I feel blessed to have known him. May God hold family and friends in His embrace and provide comfort.
