Charles Lyerly Dixon, 90, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024, at Carteret Health Care.

A celebration of Mr. Dixon’s life will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, October 14th, at First Baptist Church in Morehead City, officiated by Dr. Nate Leonard and Rev. Darrell Williams. His graveside service, with Masonic Rites and military honors, will follow at 2 p.m., at the Coastal Carolina Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, NC.

Charles was born on April 1, 1934, in Albemarle North Carolina, and was the beloved son of the late Charles Henry Dixon Jr. and Adi Mae Lyerly Dixon.

Charles dedicated himself to serving his country honorably as a Corpsman in the United States Navy, where he was stationed at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia. During his military service, he married the love of his life, Alice, on December 20, 1953, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

A man of deep faith, Charles was an active member of Greenwood Forrest Baptist Church in Cary and after moving to Carteret County in 1996, he became a valued member of First Baptist Church in Morehead City. Charles faithfully served as a deacon in both congregations.

Charles was also committed to his civic responsibilities, having been a member of the Masonic Cary Lodge #198 where he served as Past Grand Master. Upon moving to the Coast Charles joined the Masonic Ocean Lodge #405 in Morehead City. He was also a proud member of the Sudan Shriners Hospital, contributing to the community in various ways.

A respected member of the Cary community, Charles dedicated his efforts to addressing the needs of others. He recognized the importance of emergency services and was instrumental in founding the Cary Rescue Squad. His spirit of giving back was also evident through his involvement with Habitat for Humanity, where he found joy in helping those in need. Alongside his wife, he also participated in the prayer shawl ministry at First Baptist Church.

Charles leaves behind a legacy of service, faith, and love for his family and community. His contributions will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughters, Vivian Gail Dixon of Morehead City, NC and Myra Dixon Jacobsen of Garner, NC; son, Charles Albert Dixon of Raleigh, NC; brother, Donald Dixon of Norfolk, VA; grandchildren, Tina Godby, Chris Roberts, Chad Jacobsen, and Brandon Dixon; and great-grandchildren, Hunter Lopez, Cale Roberts, Dixon Roberts, Sloane Jacobsen and Brooke Jacobsen.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice Edwardeen Steele Dixon who passed away in 2022; brother, Carlton Dixon; and son-in-law, Bryan Scott Jacobsen.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
