Munden Funeral Home & Crematory - Morehead CityRobert James O'Brien, 73, of Stella, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 3, 2025, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.
A memorial service to celebrate Robert's life will take place at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19th at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, North Carolina. Additionally, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 29th at St. Robert Bellamine Parish in Andover, Massachusetts.
Born on July 21, 1952, in Plymouth, New Hampshire, Robert was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth O'Brien.
Robert was known for his deep passion for the outdoors. He often joked that he worked primarily to support his love for hunting. While he had a successful career as a General Contractor, it was his adventures in nature that brought him the greatest joy. He traveled extensively across the United States on hunting expeditions. His great love for the outdoors also included time spent fishing and scuba diving. Robert also enjoyed relaxing on cruises and taking in new sights.
A devoted family man, Robert loved spending time with his grandchildren, and he adored his grand dogs.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 52 years, Barbara Ann O’Brien; sons, Rob O’Brien (Katie) of Emerald Isle, NC and Billy O’Brien (Kimmie) of Needham, MA; sisters, Pam Troiano (Mark) of New Hampshire, Mary Kelly (Matt) of Virginia, and Patty Doyle (Mike) of Massachusetts; brothers, Gene O’Brien (Joanne) of Massachusetts and Jay O’Brien (Patty) of Maine; and grandchildren, Connor O’Brien, Aidan O’Brien, Travis O’Brien, Gwen O’Brien, Caroline O’Brien, Matt Franks, and Molly Franks.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his sister, Karen O’Brien and brother, Bill O’Brien.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Crystal Coast Hospice House, P.O. Box 640, Newport, NC 28570.
