Chuck was a very special person and left a legacy that will be long lasting. In his role as volunteer, site steward, citizen advisory committee member, elected official, school bus driver, husband, father, grandfather, and friend he touched many lives that will be forever changed for the better. My sincerest condolences to Ann and the family on your loss. Thank you for your tireless dedication to conservation and the important work of the McHenry County Conservation District.

Chuck was a wonderful, commited steward of the earth. We feel a great loss. We will think of Chuck every time the spring ephemerals bloom. An enduring legacy of service and advocacy was left by Chuck. Our deepest sympathies to Ann and family.

One of my favorite memories of Chuck occurred at a stewards' meeting at Wiedrich Barn when MCCD had brought in an outside company to train us in interacting with the public. Chuck got to act out a phone call from a woman who had an injured raccoon in her yard. It went like this:
“Hello, what's the problem?”
“There is? What's it doing?”
“How badly is it injured?”
“Oh, that bad!”
“Have you got a shot gun?”
Everyone was in fits of laughter.
What the others may not know is that I was leaving at the same time as the prim and proper lady trainer and Denice was thanking her. The trainer's last comment as she walked out the door was, “Keep that raccoon guy away from the public!”
Chuck will be sorely missed but remember with fondness by so many.
My sympathy to all his family.

I will always remember your enthusiasm to assist and to learn. Your willingness to help, to ask questions with so much sincerity to understand, to always be gentle and accepting, to never complain, to hear the love in your heart when talking about Ann, you will always serve as a model to me. My deepest condolences to you, Ann.

Chuck was one of the kindest souls I've known. He was generous with his time and volunteered wholeheartedly. He believed deeply in healing the land and giving back through his restoration efforts. He truly enjoyed working with young people and passing on his knowledge and love of the land. We volunteered together many times through the years and he was always warm and welcoming, generous and funny. He was always there to lend a hand. Once, at an all day class, he even split his lunch with me because I forgot mine. He was just that kind of man; so caring and thoughtful. McHenry County is a better place today because of Chuck's passion and hard work. I am blessed to have known Chuck, and I will miss him more than my words can describe. My heartfelt condolences go out to his wife Anne, his family and many friends.
