Dr. Farris delivered me in 1963, at Baptist Hospital in NOLA. RIP

September 11, 2013

I had the good fortune of having Dr. Farris deliver my third child who is now 50. It was a difficult time for me and the good doctor stayed with me all night. He helped me through the delivery with care and gentleness. It was as though the child was his. I will never forget him for his kindness and patience. He was my salvation later in my life with the most annoying night sweats one could imagine when I entered menopause. I will remember him in my prayers and I am so thankful to have met him. God bless all of you.

Dear Farris children and grandchildren--
I went to the doctor's office today for an appt with your Dad's replacement, Dr. French and when I asked about him, she gave me the sad news. (I must have been out of town, or I missed it in the paper, as I certainly would have paid my respects.) However, we both thought about how happy he is now to be with his beloved wife. He often spoke of her and I could see the love he had for her and how he missed her in the 4 years I knew him.
On a personal basis, his expertise helped me with his "one of a kind" hormone therapy, a real life saver for a busy working woman. Of all the doctors I have seen, he appreciated that I wanted to read articles on this health issue and make intelligent decisions. He always took the time to answer any and all of my questions. As a professional, hewas not afraid to debunk the "drive-by" conventional wisdom on hormone replacement therapy. I will always especially appreciate his support in encouraging me to get my major insurance company to pay for my treatments since they paid for similar treatments for men. He did not tolerate any type of discrimination, and with his research articles I was able to appeal and get the procedure covered for all women in Louisiana. He and I often celebrated that victory and talked politics as well. I will miss him and will keep you all in my prayers. God bless!

Charlie was one of the finest doctors I have ever known, and as a hospital exec I knew a lot, when I would check the docs lounge at Baptist at midnight or 6 am there he was waiting for a delivery since his time was not as important as the health of the mother and baby. A great guy, my condolences Meg and family.

I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Farris. I was his patient for over forty years, during my Mercy Hospital days, Mercy-Baptist days, and Lindy Boggs days until its closing after Katrina. On my visits we would talk about the two hospitals. He was such a wonderful physician and I had the greatest respect for him.
