He served with the United States Army of Occupation in Germany. He joined General Motors Acceptance Corporation as a Field Representative in Rutland, Vt. in 1960. He progressed through several positions with GMAC in Rutland, Bangor and Portland, retiring as Sales Manager in 1992. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Clifton and Esther Hadley and his brother Peter Hadley of Greenwich, Conn. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sally Gilblair Hadley; his daughters Erika King of Topsham, Deborah Baron of Pittston, Melodie Brown of Falmouth, his sons, John Michael Poirier of Durham, Mark Poirier of Portland; his sister Caroline Wood of Croton-on-Hudson, NY; eight grandchildren, Candace, Sarah, Benjamin, Jesse, Samuel, Derek, James and Hadley; as well as seven nieces and nephews.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, he maintained his sense of humor to the end. "That" he often said, "has made all the difference."

I knew Charlie for years through gun shows and my work at Poulin's Auctions. Always a gentleman and first class act. I received one of my greatest compliments of my work from him when he stated that since I described the revolvers, he didn't need to see them in person as my description would be fine for him. I recently learned of his military past more of his life as we talked at Poulin's. He also gave me selling advice and told me how he advertised as "Charles" and "Charlie" so to know where inquiries were coming from; I just wanted to make sure that as I called him "Charlie" that he might not prefer "Charles". A pleasure to have known him.

OMG Sally ~ please know how sad & sorry I am for your incredible loss ~ Charlie, the love of your life with his bonny looks and affable disposition!!
While you were able to sing a lovely & fitting tribute at Herbie's memorial I unfortunately am tone deaf and cannot carry a note. However, for you it would be Robert Goulet singing "If Ever I Would Leave You" ~ for as Charlie would tell you "Oh, no, not in springtime, summer, winter, or fall ~ No never, could I leave you at all." You remain in his loving embrace!
W/Love & Sincere sympathy,

Charley you were one in a billion!
Our hearts and prayers go out you and your family at this very difficult time. Your loss is felt by anyone lucky to have known you. I will always be that little kid racing down Belmont St to get the corner so I could walk with you back home when I visited you and Sally....and that basketball hoop you had was my biggest joy!
Sally I can't even imagine what you are feeling right now, but I hope all the happy memories of you and Charley help you through this difficult time. Charley, thank you for taking the time to ask "Kelly how are you?" because I alway knew you really meant it. Charley you were just a good guy and we are all heartbroken by your loss. The seemingly small gestures by you are rememberer even after what seems a lifetime by that little kid racing down the street,
Love to you Sally!
