I reported to Charlie in my first real job, that of media research assistant at McCann Erickson. I also reported to a spirited young woman in the office next to his: Coral Eaton. (They weren´t a couple yet, or at least no one seemed to suspect they were.) I was in awe of Charlie, in awe of everything about him: his deep rooted intelligence, keen sense of humor, sophistication, and joie de vivre. There was so much to learn from this man, and although his insights into the advertising...

Charlie was a New York Institution. He will be missed, but I think not forgotten.
I first crossed paths with Charlie when Pat (my late wife) was working with the Reform movement in New York City Democratic politics during the 60's and I was working in journalism and National Democratic politics. From then through recent visits to Charlie at his summer home in the Hamptons he was always in sight, always tuned into what was going on in New York and national politics and the broader...

I'm so saddened to hear of Charlie's passing.
Having shared many a Coffee House evening with this charming, erudite and handsome man, and speaking for my fellow Coffeehousers, we will miss him dearly.
His generosity in hosting us so beautifully at his home in Easthampton is a sweet and lasting memory and we offer our deepest condolences to his family.
This picture was taken on Main Beach in Easthampton, June 21st, 2017.

I am so saddened to learn of the death of this ever-energetic, charming man of imagination, political passion, and great wit. Charlie was one of my parent’s Leo and Agnes’s oldest and dearest friends. I remember him, from my childhood, dashing about at my parents’ parties, rushing into my father’s office at the Bureau, rolling out some great idea, sitting at the dinner table, first with Coral, and subsequently, with Jolie, and then Jacqueline, telling stories (I think of him as the...
