Charles Platt, Jr. Obituary

Mr. Charles Webster Platt, Jr., age 58 of Southside passed away peacefully at Riverview Regional Medical Center on January 15, 2021 while surrounded by his wife and children. Charles, also known to many as "Webb", was born in Denver, Colorado in 1962. The eldest of four children, his family later settled in Monroe, Louisiana- where he grew up and graduated from Ouachita High School. Charles was a member of the American Legion, the NRA, and Master Mason of the Scottish Rite (Western Star No. 24 F. & A.M.), a tradition he carried on from his father before him. A devoted follower of Christ, he was baptized at Rowland Road Baptist Church in his youth and continued to study and practice God's word on a daily basis. In his twenties, Charles worked on oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico before enlisting in the United States Army. His time in the Army took him and his young family to many places, including several years living in Heidelberg, Germany and later Ft. Benning, Georgia. After a decade of service in the Army, Charles attained his B.S. in Nursing from Jacksonville State University where he graduated with honors. Charles's career in nursing spanned many years and several different area hospitals where he specialized in psychiatric care. Later his degree and military experience led him to a position within the Center for Domestic Preparedness (Homeland Security). As fascinating and varied as his professional life was- even more interesting was Charles himself. Honest, direct, helpful, and loyal- he was the best family member, friend and mentor you could ask for. He was a philosopher in a world of followers, always questioning and always learning. He loved being near the water and in the woods, could cook anything, and had excellent taste in music and movies. Charles was an honorable man, and took great pride in passing down his skills and wisdom to his grandson and children. We will miss his wit and humor, his fierce patriotism, and the unwavering love and thoughtfulness he showed us. Mr. Platt was preceded in death by his son, Jedediah "Jed" Platt, Father, Charles Webster Platt, Sr., Sister, Stephanie Davis, as well as many other loved ones and friends who were there to greet him as he crossed the veil from his earthly life to his eternal home in Heaven. He leaves behind; Wife, Vicky Heifner Platt, Mother, Mary Virginia "Jenny" Platt, Daughter, Emily (Justin) McGlaughn, Son, Blake (Mary Martha) Dalrymple, Daughter, Sara Dalrymple, Beloved Grandson, Levi Platt McGlaughn, Brother, Rory Platt, Sister, Cindy (Phillip) Schaitel, Former wife and mother to his children, Tracie Platt, Nephew, Adam Smith, Nieces, Hannah Schaitel and Amanda Stansell, Parents-in-law, Lynwood and Mary Heifner, Close friends, Michael & Jennifer Heston and Bill & Angie Prestridge, and a large host of extended family and friends. The family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff of Riverview's CCU team- we will forever be grateful for your kindness to our family, and for the loving care and compassion you showed to our beloved Charles during his battle against COVID. Thanks also to the staff of Morgan Funeral Chapel & Crematory, and to the many friends that have showered us in flowers, food, prayers, and most importantly- with stories and photos of the man we loved so much. In accordance with Charles wishes, he was cremated and memorial gatherings in Alabama and Louisiana will be announced in the coming months to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or to the Disabled American Veterans at DAV.org Honorary Pallbearers are the 529th MP Company, Lane Richardson, Michael Heston, John Michael Heston, Bill Prestridge, John Skinner, Candler Buttram, Jeremy Willingham, Jess Allsup, and Ty Latimer. Arrangements entrusted to Morgan Funeral Chapel & Crematory.
