Charles E. "Chuck" Wingard, age 78, of Gary, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Methodist Hospital, Southlake Campus in Merrillville. Chuck was a Gary resident for 44 years and was a U.S. Army Veteran during the Korean War. He retired from Inland Steel in East Chicago with 40 years of service and was a member of American Legion Post #701. Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Christina; five children: Teresa (Scott) Harness of Crown Point, Bryan Wingard (Vickey Richardson), and Janiece Wingard (Larry Gore), all of Hobart, Danny Wingard of Gary, and Dennis Wingard of Lake Station; grandchildren: Brittany Lamphear, Annette (Keith) McIndoo, Jason (Sarah) Harness, Tabatha (Chris) Charleston; Skylar and Savannah Wingard; Alexis Wingard, Justin Cox and Daniel Cooper; nine great grandchildren; sister, Juanita (Bill) Strong; and brother-in-law, Vernon James. His daughter, Sally Ann Lamphear; and two sisters: Ruthanna James and Rita Tate, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Rees Funeral Home, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart with Rev. Gary S. Nagy officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. We am so sorry for the everyone's loss. I will always remember how much fun Chuck could be and how he loved ghost stories. He especially loved scaring all of us as children. He could be a true softy at times but liked playing tough. He will not be forgotten.
