Not sure what to say?

12•10•2018: My 22nd anniversary of my living donor kidney transplant was Dec 9th, 2018. Diabetes was triggered following surgery. Living at Victory in the Valley, I saw him daily. My A1C is still below 6.5 because he taught me how to deal with it. Looking for his address to send a card today, I found his obituary. I am saddened by his passing and will be forever grateful to him. My kidney is still functioning and my A1C remains below 6.5. My condolences.

Dr. Shields was my transplant surgeon for many years. He was a trailblazer in his field and I am so sorry to hear of his passing. Me and my family send our deepest condolences to the family.

Condolences from a grateful student.

To the family of Dr. Shield:
I have been a patient of his since the 80s and have always considered him "my surgeon" as he performed 2 hernia surgeries, a thyroidectomy, and oddly he removed a kidney from me (I was the first patient of his after he took a vacation in October of 2006 to be there for his granddaughter's birth. I had been going to the same urologist as my son used for his spina bifida and when he retired the new one looked at my x-ray (or whatever) and declared that I needed...

To the Shield's family
Dr Shield has given me two kidneys in the past. I simply can not thank him enough (as I've done through out my life) for what he has done for me and tons of others. He has given to so many a second chance life to be able to live the life to the fullest. In my book he has and always be the best doctor. Never forget the moments at hospital when I happened to be his last patient he took his time sat next to me to discuss politics. May god bless his soul and may his...

Dr. Shields and Dr. Smith performed my kidney transplant 14 years ago. I had a lot of complications that first year and Dr. Shield always stepped in to assist be it a medicine adjustment or an I.V. Stick. We lost a great surgeon and person with his passing and Heaven gained one. RIP .You will be missed,

I am sad about Dr. Shield's passing. He and Dr. Smith performed my son Ryan's kidney transplant in 2003. Ryan is married now with 2 wonderful sons of his own. I will pray for his family.

I am so sad to hear that Dr. Shield passed. I was her nurse for several years at Wichita Surgical and knew first hand how much he cared for his patients and what an excellent surgeon he was and most important, a good man. Our loss. Lee Carter, RN

So sorry to hear of your loss. Dr Shield cared deeply about all his patients and the community. He was an excellent, progressive, teaching surgeon!
