Deacon Charlie Rayvon Winchester peacefully slept into eternal reward on April 26, 2015 while at home. The son of Mary F. Winchester and the late Mack G. Winchester, Charlie was born on November 18, 1952 in Monroe, North Carolina.
He was educated in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School Systems and was employed by Calvary Church Building Services. He had many titles ? Friend, Brother, Mentor, Counselor, Prayer Partner. He met no strangers. Charlie loved the Lord and he loved his church. He was a faithful deacon at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church and later attended Liberation Ministry.
Charlie loved to sing. It was his passion, something he did very well. He was a member of the Praise Team and the Men?s Choir. He sung with John P. Kee, Shirley Caesar, Musicians for Christ, and Sons of David. He wrote and recorded songs. He was nationally known for singing ?Found What I?m Looking For.?
In addition to his father, Mack Winchester, Charlie was preceded in death by one sister, Frances Denise Edwards.
Charlie loved his family, especially his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Norvelle Winchester; mother, Mary F. Winchester; four sons, Anthony, Shaundell, Charles and Jabbar; eight grandchildren, Antoneia, Mia, Eujauha, Ariel, Sy, Tyler, Shero, and Tammani; great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Sunrose and D.J.; siblings, Lucille Davis (Joe), George Winchester (Myra), Maxine Van Der Kaap (Rob), Mae Simmons (Harry), Linda Kennedy (Greg), Ricky Winchester, Ann Winchester, Phyllis Newhouse, Robert Winchester (Cherita), Janice Heath (Leroy), and David Davis; three sisters-in-law, Melinda Burrows, Trudy Pratt and Tonya Simmons; two brothers-in-law, Earnest Wilson and Juiet Wilson; special friends, Pastor Byron Davis and Dennis McClure; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, May 4, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Little Rock A.M.E. Zion Church. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Garden in Charlotte.
