Cherry Reeser Obituary

Cherry Reeser

Cherry Naomi Reeser, 90, of Brunswick, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025.

Cherry was born in 1934 in Ainsley, Louisiana, to the Rev. Clealand and Ruby Wheatly. She was joined by siblings Eddie in 1938 and Carl in 1937. The family moved to Brunswick, where Cherry's father founded the United Pentecostal Church of Brunswick. While both Carl and Eddie would go on to spend time pastoring the assembly after their father, they both publicly and privately acknowledged that Cherry was their most trusted counsel.

Cherry worked as an SICU nurse at Brunswick Hospital for many years. She continued to play a critical role at the church throughout her life as well, teaching Sunday School, cooking and cleaning for the church, and teaching second grade at the church school. Most importantly, she was a wise and true sister to numerous church parishioners.

As a devout and holy woman, she walked her path with Jesus with grace, humor and love. Well into her 80s, you would most likely find Cherry in her yard, pulling weeds or planting flowers. She spent this spring and summer sitting on her porch swing, admiring her gardens and watching the birds and butterflies.

Up until her last breath, Cherry lived life on her own terms, loved her family fiercely, and brought color into the lives of everyone that knew and loved her.

Cherry was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Reeser d. 2003; parents, Clealand Carl Wheatly II d. 1997 and Ruby Lee McDonald d. 2008; siblings, Clealand Carl Wheatly III d. 2021 (Sharon, 1995); Herschel Edward Wheatly d. 2017 (Fay, 2023).

She is survived by her children, Tanna Mia Ward (Jimmy d. 2023), Cheri Tillman (Tommy), Tami Abell (Jerry) and George Mosley II; sister-in-law, Carol Wheatly (Carl); aunt, LaJune Hires; grandchildren, Brandy, Chad, David, Marisa, Amanda, George III and Lindsay; 14 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren (with one expected in July 2025); and many nieces, nephews, friends and church family.

The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2025, at The Pentecostals of Brunswick, followed by interment in Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements are entrusted to Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home, www.edomillerandsons.com
