Early in WWII, Chet was assigned to the A.S.T.P. ( the Army Specialized Training Program ). He would have worn the yellow and gold patch ( below ) on his uniform during that assignment. It would provide the Army with high grade technicians and specialists by sending qualified soldiers to colleges. It was a program for the best and the brightest. Chet easily qualified. This story was not a part of Chet's Obituary ,therefore, I will share it in this format. Soon after entering service during WWII, Chet was selected to serve in the A.S.T.P.
