Chet was a good friend both at Waite High School ( Principal and Teacher ) and then in Venice Florida. We would often see each other for Waite reunions here in Venice and sometimes have breakfast together at Bob Evans. I miss Chet.

Early in WWII, Chet was assigned to the A.S.T.P. ( the Army Specialized Training Program ). He would have worn the yellow and gold patch ( below ) on his uniform during that assignment. It would provide the Army with high grade technicians and specialists by sending qualified soldiers to colleges. It was a program for the best and the brightest. Chet easily qualified. The Dept. of the Army terminated the program only after a short period of time. The needs had changed for the Army. Chet would then find himself in the Army Air Corp training to be a Navigator. Just a little information about Chet's military history. You can find the full story about Chet and the A.T.S.P in the book I authored on WWII. His short story is in fact titled A.S.T.P.

This story was not a part of Chet's Obituary ,therefore, I will share it in this format. Soon after entering service during WWII, Chet was selected to serve in the A.S.T.P. This was the Army Specialized Training Program. It would provide the Army with high grade technicians and specialists by sending soldiers to colleges chosen by the War Department. It would select only the best and the brightest. Chet fit in nicely. When the program was prematurely shut down, Chet would be assigned according to the needs of the Army. That would be with the Army Air Corp. He would become a Navigator. I know that Chet would be good in whatever he chose to do. Later that would be a coach and a principal.
If the blue and yellow patch is available on this website, it is the patch Chet would have worn on his uniform while assigned to the A.S.T.P.
WWII ASTP Patch ( Chet would have worn.)
