Choco Gonzalez Meza passed away on October 9, 2016 at the age of 64. Born in Zaragoza, Coahuila, Mexico, her family immigrated to Uvalde and Eagle Pass, Texas. During her life-long journey as an American citizen dedicated to securing voting rights and equal representation for disenfranchised minorities, Choco served as National Research Director, Southwest Voter Registration Education Project; Executive Director, YWCA and Partnership for Hope; HUD Deputy
Assistant Secretary for Intergovernmental Relations, Senior Vice President, San Antonio Housing Authority; President, American Sunrise; campaign manager including San Antonio lead for Hillary Clinton; member of Democratic National Committee, State Democratic Executive Committee, Chair, Bexar County Democratic Party, US Presidential Scholars Commission, Bexar County Housing Authority. Choco is survived by Daniel Meza, husband of 44 years, son Danny Meza (fiancé Julie Gi Kim), daughter Ivalis (Manuel) Gonzalez, granddaughter Emma Maria; brothers Victor Gonzalez (Grace), Robert Gonzalez (Ana), Elva Benavidez (Roberto), Alfonso Gonzalez (Norma), 21 nieces/nephews and grand nieces/nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Alfonso R. Gonzalez and Josefa G. Gonzalez.

Remember Choco and Danny from being around my parents (Bernardo and Maggie Eureste) during the 70's in SA. Great memory!Choco gave me a backpack and a book formmy high school graduation many years ago.Danny and family sorry for you loss.

My deepest condolences to Daniel and the Meza family. She was a great and passionate advocate for the community. I will always remember her visits at the San AlPhonsus Senior Apartments, I was the President for the counsel at the San AlPhonsus Senior apartments and always enjoyed her positive energy and really listening to the seniors. She will be missed.

I worked with Choco Mesa at the " YWCA". She was a very hard working person with strong convictions for all those she served in our the community. Many will miss her and her leadership! My condolences to the families!

Choco and I were classmates in Eagle Pass High School. She has always been a great person, leader and friend. My deepest sympathy to her beloved husband, Daniel and family. May she rest in peace.
