I remember meeting Choco during the organizing of the Raza Unida Party in the early 1970's. Exceptional leader and dedicated servant of her people. Liked her then and I continued to admire her to this date. Excellent role model. What a great loss. May God Bless the family and let them known just how much Choco will be missed. Adios.

My heart goes out to Choco's family and friends. I know how much you will miss her and her spunky personality and the way she could me you laugh at the drop of a hat. She loved her family so much.

When I first met her, I felt like I had known her for years. I use to love to hear her stories.

Blessings to those she left behind.

My deepest and most sincere condolences to Daniel and the Mesa family. I was shocked when I heard of Choco's passing. She is by far a legend in San Antonio politics and across Texas and across our nation. I knew her for many, many years and her husband Daniel.
San Antonio has suffered a great loss. Choco, I know you will be victorious in our presidential election thanks to all of your efforts.
I am praying for Daniel and the family. Your extended family is grieving and feeling your family's pain. We will all miss you and shed tears for you and your family.
Please know that you will never, never be forgotten.

From David Casares and Lucie Castillo Casares (EPHS '71): We would like to express our condolences to the Meza/Gonzalez families. After high school, we would cross paths again in the 80's at the Barrio Education Project, teatro events, and for the Cisneros and Castro campaigns. Choco truly lived out the mantle of Most Likely To Succeed given to her by her classmates in 1971.
