Christa Ann Pierpont, 70, passed away in the early morning of March 21, 2018, as snow blanketed Central Virginia. She was the mother to three sons and partner to Bud Levin. Born in Marietta, Ohio, she was the daughter of Dr. Howard C. and Mary Irene Pierpont. She graduated from Radford University with a degree in Elementary Education and Mental Retardation and later received her Masters Degree in Special Education from the University of Virginia. She spent over 15 years teaching in Albemarle County Schools and spent several years as an educator at the Augusta Correctional Center. She was passionate in supporting efforts to address conflict for youth and young adults through her work in bringing Mediation programs in schools, and later Restorative Justice practices in Virginia's schools, colleges and universities. Christa founded the Restorative Community Foundation with a focus on addressing juvenile and young adult justice reform measures. She spent tireless hours advocating for restorative justice practices and legal reforms, working with community leaders and public officials at local, state and federal levels and within the court system. She would also earn a certificate in Restorative Justice from Eastern Mennonite University. Christa enjoyed gardening, reading and music. She had a passion for the history of Francis and Julia Pierpont during the Civil War and Reconstruction in West Virginia and Virginia. Interestingly that led to her connection and foundation board position at Pierpont Community & Technical College in West Virginia. She will be remembered for her sharp wit and strong relationships with the various communities she was involved in. She spent her youth in Arlington and spent most of her life in the Charlottesville/Albemarle area with time in Madison County and spent her final years in Staunton and Fisherville. She is remembered with love and admiration by her eldest son, David Pierpont and wife, Natalie, and granddaughter, Jade; her middle son, Benjamin Thomasson; youngest son, Matthew Thomasson and wife, Maria; her partner, Bud Levin, and his devoted children and grandchildren. A celebration of life and memorial will be held on Sunday, July 22, 2018, at Thomas Jefferson Memorial Unitarian Universalist Church in Charlottesville, Va. at 3 p.m. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Christa Pierpont Scholarship Fund at Pierpont Foundation, 726 East Park Avenue, PMB 298, Fairmont WV 26554 or http://pierpont.edu/memorial. I Just happened to be thinking about Christa today when I was researching old acquaintances. I first met her in 1968, when I was a student at Oakland Farm School.
She really connected with us kids. I know she´s going to be missed by those closest to her
