Claire followed me in birth order and my earliest memory goes back to 1963, the year of her birth. She followed me to the same primary school; went to different high schools, but then she followed me to Howard University. All the while, as a Big Brother, I deemed it my job to take care of my Little Sister Nicky and our Baby Sister Maxine. How I wish my job with Nicky didnt end so soon! Claire and I went to high school together. She and her family lived relatively close by my familys home in Jamaica during this very exciting and mischievous phase in our lives. We both grew up, got less mischievous, went to college and started our separate careers in the USA. I attended her wedding and 1 of her baby showers. We both lived and worked in the DMV area, keeping in touch occasionally but not as often as I would have liked...we lived extremely busy lives.

It's hard to loss a loved one and it's harder for the ones that are left behind to grieve. Please take consolence that she has moved on to a better place where she is needed now. Remember, she is now your angel.

May you find comfort in remembering her laughter like I do; her strength and love of family that she shared with me; how she touched each and every one of your lives in her own special way. I did not see her often but knew that family and friends meant the world to her. Those special gifts will always live on in each of you.
