Clarence R. (Mert/Hoot) Jones, age 93, of Knoxville passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017 at his home. He was born March 31, 1924 in Knoxville. He worked over 40 years at Cherokee Textile Mills and served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy. He was known for his great laugh, love of hunting, and his famous unhittable softball spin pitch. Many will miss seeing him on his front porch swing as they drive past his home. Preceded in death by his parents, several siblings, and 2 infant children. Clarence is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Betty Jones; 4 children, Carolyn Kiser and husband, Danny; Lois Lake; Barbara Brackett and husband Jim; and Tammy Clark; 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren and sister, Dorothy Plemmons; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 5-7 p.m., at Berry Funeral Home. Family and friends will meet at Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, John Sevier Highway on Wednesday October 11th for an 11:30 a.m. Interment Service with honors being conferred by The U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Team.
