Claude Hippard Obituary
He was born on the 7th of August 1954 in Houston, Texas. After graduating from Westchester High School in 1973, Claude received a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Southwest Texas State University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law Center. After a few years in private practice, Claude started working at the United States Attorney's Office in Houston in January 1989. He was one of the office's experts in federal forfeiture and money laundering laws. He became an outstanding instructor of financial investigations to an entire generation of federal law enforcement officers, both nationally and within the Southern District of Texas. He was most recently assigned to the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force prosecuting major drug and money laundering organizations.
Claude touched everyone who knew him with his gratitude for life. His kindness, humor and generosity gave everyone around him a sense of comfort and ease. He was the ultimate gentleman and a role model for all.
Claude is preceded in death by his grandparents, Margaret Way Cheesman and Dale Carroll Cheesman, Sr.; and, Frances Wheeler Hippard and George Garver Hippard; his parents Carolyn Cheesman Hippard and James Joseph Hippard, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Helena Karlberg Hippard; his children, Carolyn H. Hippard and Jaclyn Hippard; sisters, Ellen Hippard, Margaret Brand and husband Jim; and brothers, James J. Hippard, Jr., and wife Mary Lou Keel, and George C. Hippard and wife Allie.
The memorial service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 13th of July, at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road in Houston, where the Rev. Martin J. Bastian, Senior Associate Rector for Pastoral Care, is to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Bagby Parish Hall.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Mr. Claude Hippard's name may be directed to the University of Houston Law Foundation, 100 Law Center, Houston, TX, 77201; the American Heart Association, Houston Chapter, 10060 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, TX, 77054; or to the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 900 Portway Dr., Houston, TX, 77024.

I talked about Claude in the Federal Courtroom with his colleagues one day this week. Only one AUSA knew and remembered who Claude was. The new ones don't know him at all. I assisted him as an interpreter/translator.
I miss Claude's dedication, kindness and appreciation for the people he worked with. I enjoyed his sense of humor that eased the stress of our work. His performance in the courtroom was amazing! He's greatly missed!

Claude was a very good friend of mine at SWT and a fellow cook in the Grin's kitchen. Paul told me about his untimely death today as I was passing through San Marcos. There are people who pass through this world who leave an everlasting impression on your life and he was one of them. I never met a man who was so joyous in every thing he did. He was a big kidder and could make light of some of your hardest trials and tribulations just to put things back in perspective. Your sense of humor also allowed you not to take your self too seriously and you were such an individual that every one was your friend because you treated them all the same. Its been 2 years and I still can't believe Claude is gone. I started out as his legal secretary in 2002 and we worked together for many years, in fact up to my retirement. He was such a funny guy and always had me in stitches. I will always remember his daily horoscope readings and how he was the first person I ever heard sing "Grandma Got Ran Over By a Reindeer". He was one of the best.

Claude was a childhood friend of mine in Memorial Bend. I use to like to stay overnight at Claude's house 'cause Mrs. Hippard always had Hawiian Punch and Oreo's!! I remember our Stingray Bikes, mine I bought with my paper route money.

I am so sorry for Claude and his family, and my heart goes out to them. My boyhood memories for the most part revolve around Claude. He was a friend for life and like a brother to me. To try and describe Claude's impact on my life and what he meant to me....words will not do it justice. I moved to Houston from Venezuela when I was 8 years old, and on the first day in the house, Claude was the first kid I met. We immediately became friends, and lived next door to each other until we both left home. During that period, we became like family, and grew up together. My biggest regret is that living overseas, I have not seen him for years upon years, although remember him like it was yesterday. Even though we did not keep in touch very well as adults, Claude you will be missed, old friend. God Bless You.

I only heard of Claude's passing today and am truly floored. Claude was an extraordinary human being with a heart of gold and a forever young spirit. His constant playfulness, joking, and edge for laughter made him an absolute joy to be around, and his pranks and antics too were memories I'm sure everyone who knew him will keep with them forever. I am blessed to have had the opportunity not only to work alongside Claude, but gain a true friend. His impact in the short time I've known him speaks to his worth as a human. I moved from New York to go to U of H law school and ended up living in the apartment complex owned by his dad and humorously known as the "Hippard Hilton". Claude was my next door neighbor. Claude was a great supervisor, believed in working together and having fun. He truly loved his family. I remember him trying to speak French when he would call Helena and his voice would get deeper. I would always tease him about that. Always talked about Carolyn and Jackie and the Hippard clan vacations. The thing I most admired was that he called his mother every day to check on her. So glad our paths crossed. He lived life to the fullest. {Au revoir mon ami, Reposer en paix}

I just found out today that Claude had passed away on July 10, 2012. I was shocked and saddened by his death. I had seen him in court not too long ago. Claude gave me a warm hug and talked about a case we had worked on very hard for the whole year. I don't know Claude personally but Claude was very pleasant, kind and considerate while I was working with him. My heartfelt condolences to Claude's family. RIP Claude. I will miss seeing you in the court-rooms.

I was saddened and shocked at the news. My heartfelt sympathies go out to all of the Hippard Clan. I grew up with Claude and Jimmy. Many happy and funny memories of those days are still with me. I worked with Claude for about 3yrs at the U.S. Attorney's office. He was a great supervisor and the only person who understood my sarcastic humor. He was always smiling and in great spirits. In private practice and when I called Claude at the US Attorney's office he was the same cheerful, bright, supportive guy. We worked together for many years. In the early 90's we discovered our mutual interest in motorcycles. It was during motorcycle rides that we came to know each other more and more. This was how I met his lovely wife Helena and his oldest daughter Carolyn, and this is how he met my daughter. Claude always made me smile, and most times he made me laugh out loud. He had that way about him, that effect on everyone around him. I will miss him greatly. He will always be in my heart. When I think of Claude, melancholy will eventually be overcome by thoughts of his smile, humor, and zest for life. Rest in peace my friend. We will ride together again some day.

I would run into Claude a couple of times a week in the tunnels coming from or heading to federal court. Every encounter was a laugh and a smile. I took it for granted that this routine would go on. He is missed.

I was shocked and saddened to read this morning about Claude's passing. I remember him from his private practice days and have fond memories of him. No words can express the sorrow I feel for the loss of Claude. I worked with him very closely in the Houston office and considered him my buddy. I've seen his girls grow up into beautiful young women. He would tell me stories about his dog Harley chewing up his motorcycle exhaust pipe and the siding on his house! He would always have me laughing! He was always so upbeat and funny and had a great sense of humor and always a joy to be around. I remember giving him my collard green recipe and him claiming it as his own! I will always remember him and he will always have a special place in my heart. My condolensces to his family.

Claude was one of those "phone friends" we DOJ prosecutors seem to have a lot of: people we talk to on the phone, but rarely - sometimes never - meet in person. When I was an AUSA in Phoenix, we spoke several times, and given his wonderful personality, soon moved beyond business to friendship. God bless and keep you, Claude, and your family. Claude lived well, leaving a legacy of two beautiful daughters who adore him. A wife who was his soul-mate, and friends too numerous to count. What a way to be remembered. I worked with Claude in the Financial Litigation Unit at the US Attorney's Office. He was a wonderful person who gave of himself generously to all. His smile and good nature was always uplifting to everyone that came into contact with him. Claude genuinely cared for others and his love for you was undying. You made him extremely happy and he often shared his great family stories. You meant the world to him and he meant the world to us. I can honestly say that I lost a brother who I will never forget and I will be forever grateful to Claude for everything that he brought to my life.
