Broomhead Funeral Home - Riverton Obituary

Lorana Quohana Atwood Webb “Connie” left this world peacefully early on the morning of June 2, 2024 in Sandy, UT. She had just celebrated her 94th birthday days before.

Born on May 28th, 1930 to James M Atwood and Nancy Mae Dumayne Atwood. Connie was the 5th of nine children. She lived her early life in West Jordan, Utah, where she learned how to work hard at a young age. She herded cows, raised rabbits, and always helped with a variety of household chores. She always enjoyed work and kept a strong work ethic throughout her life.

Growing up in a large family, Connie, along with her brothers and sisters, were trained by their parents to sing and perform. They were known as the “Atwood Family Singers", and Connie not only sang but also performed an acrobatic act. At the age of eight, the family traveled to New York City to sing on Major Bowes, a national radio program. As they traveled across the country, they would perform for various people, many times receiving money, gas, lodging and meals to help with the traveling costs. This trip was an adventure that Connie would always fondly remember.

Connie attended Jordan High School and loved being a cheerleader for the Beetdiggers. While attending Jordan High, she met and fell in love with her sweetheart Reed Sylvester Webb. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 27th, 1948.

Connie and Reed settled in Bluffdale, Utah where they raised their family of five children. Connie loved her role as a mother and homemaker. Reed was a great provider for the family, and this gave Connie the ability to focus on the children and the home. She taught her children, loved her children, and always took great care of them. Family was everything to her.

Connie was very musically talented. She loved singing in harmony with others. She also led and conducted the music in church congregations and choirs. She had perfect pitch and could hear each part as it should be sung. She could also play many instruments such as the piano, violin, marimba, and was mostly self-taught. She had great rhythm, and it was always fun for others to watch her tap dance and twirl the baton. She was an exceptional entertainer.

It was a priority for Connie for her children to be trained in music. She was thrifty and saved money so that they all could have music lessons. Her children excelled and the rewards of her efforts is extending throughout the generations.

Connie loved the gospel of Jesus Christ. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many capacities throughout her life including Relief Society President. She always strived to be obedient and keep God’s commandments and her temple covenants. She was the spiritual catalyst of the family and taught by word and example.

She loved to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with others, and after retirement age, Reed and Connie served two full time church missions. They served in the Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Nashville, Tennessee missions. Connie developed a great love for those she served and continued to stay friends with many of the people she met.

Connie also loved attending and serving in the Temple. She became a temple worker with Reed and loved her time serving there.

Connie was full of charisma and fun! She could always make a person laugh with her sharp wit and contagious laughter. Her personality was huge, and she could always light up a room. She was very intelligent and loved to read and study. She always strived to have a keen mind and was interested in multiple topics. Connie also had a patriotic spirit and a deep love for America. She was rarely shy about conveying her feelings and convictions to others.

After her sweetheart Reed passed away, Connie sold her home in Bluffdale and moved to Cedarwood Living Center in Sandy, Utah. She lived nine years at Cedarwood, where she developed many close friendships with the other residents. She also became friends with those who worked there. She appreciated those who lovingly served her. She loved them right back, and they became more like extended sons and daughters to her.

Connie deeply loved her family, who will truly miss her, as well as others who truly knew her. Her posterity and influence will continue to grow and be a reflection of her love and dedication to others and her obedience to her savior, Jesus Christ.

She is survived by children Brinton (Paulla), Valerie (Hal) Wardle, Dana (Barbara), Teresa (William) Wellbaum, Ryan (Mitzi), adopted son Rudy (Jolene) Mena, 21 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. Also survived by siblings, Winnie Leishman, and Lamona Bird. Proceeded in death by her parents, husband Reed, brother-in-law Lee Leishman and Ron Bird, siblings Bernice (Jesse) Simons, Jim (Olga) Atwood, Ted (Nellie) Atwood, Merridy (Lynn) Baker, Roderick (Margaret) Atwood, Aloma (Pieter) Spyker.

Two viewings will be held. One on Tuesday evening, June 18, 2024, from 6 - 8 P.M. and another prior to the funeral on Wednesday morning, June 19, 2024, from 9 -10:30 A.M. Funeral to start at 11 A.M. Both viewings and funeral are to be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Stake Center, located 15429 S. Iron Horse Blvd. Bluffdale. Internment at the Bluffdale City Cemetery.

Not sure what to say?

Is this Connie Atwood who was a contestant on the TV game show Match Game in 1973? If so, I have watched that memorable episode many timed here in the year 2025, and Connie Atwood was great.

CONNIE was my neighbor for 40 years. She was a woman of integrity. She minded her own business and left others to do the same. She raised hard working wonderful children. She was kind and generous to those around her. She doesn't need my recommendation to enter the gates of Heaven but I stand ready. Love you Connie!

We sure loved Connie and her family. She was such a loving, caring, fun to be around, and talented lady. We loved hearing her sing and visiting with her. We will sure miss her. Love Ex and Etta Johnson

She was such a wonderful Aunt to me and will truly be missed. I will always remember her with fondness. I loved how she would perform for everyone and in turn make everyone else perform as well no matter what our talents may be. She made all our reunions memorable and fun. Until we meet again, love you so much!

Condolences to your family. Your Mother was such a kind woman and a great example.

Ryan, Mitzi and family my deepest condolences on the tremendous loss to you and all that knew this beautiful light and soul. God bless sending love and light to you all

we love our Aunt Connie. We pray for all of you at this difficult time but what a great reunion on the other side. We are out of town and likely will not be able to make the funeral, but we pray that it might be a wonderful, beautiful experience, just like the person she was.
