CONSTANCE MCGARRY Obituary

Constance "Connie" Rhoads McGarry, 86, of Clearfield, passed away Monday, March 22, 2021 at her home.

She was born July 5, 1934 in Clearfield, the daughter of Fred L. and Bernece (Chilcott) Rhoads.

Mrs. McGarry was a graduate of Clearfield High School, class of 1952.

She was the office manager for TAFCO, where she retired in 1987 after 32 years.

Mrs. McGarry was a lifetime member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Clearfield where she had served as treasurer for several years, was on vestry and president of the altar guild for 17 years.

Connie was the first member of the District 4 Pennsylvania Federation of Business and Professional Women's Club to become state president. She also served as state treasurer twice and on several committees as chairwoman. On the district level, she had served as treasurer, assistant director and director. Mrs. McGarry also served as parliamentarian several times as different chairs. She joined B.P.W. in 1953 and held every office of the club over the years.

Mrs. McGarry served as the first chairwoman of the Clearfield Borough Recreation Committee. She served on the Clearfield Borough Zoning Hearing Board as vice chairwoman for several years and the Clearfield Planning Commission several years and was chairwoman at one time.

Connie is survived by her four step-children, Terry McGarry and her spouse Deb of Camp Hill, Michael J. McGarry and his wife Barbara of Bradford, Kimberly A. Clukey and her husband Bryon, and B.J. Sterndale and her husband Dennis, all of Clearfield; nine step-grandchildren, Jonathan Ogden (Laura) of Austin, Erin Pickering (Dustin) of Chambersburg, Scott Ryan Ogden of Lock Haven, Bevin Palese (Michael) of Lemoyne, Michael R. McGarry (Sarah) of Pittsburgh, Shannon R. McGarry of Bradford, Danielle M. Friederich of Pocahontas, Ark., Brandi L. Smith (Lucas) of St. Marys and Tyler M. Shaw of Harrisburg; nine step-great grandchildren; two nieces, Cynthia L. Stauffer and Pamela S. Christine (Ed); two grandnephews, Lucas Stauffer Weller and Alexander L. Christine; one grandniece, Alana Stauffer Weller; and a step son-in-law, the Rev. Scott R. Ogden of Coudersport.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert M. McGarry whom she married June 1, 1985 and who passed away Nov. 14, 2009; a sister, Patricia R. Stauffer; a step-daughter, Tracy J. Ogden; and two nephews, Michael L. Stauffer and Douglas F. Stauffer.

Honoring Mrs. McGarry's wishes, services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be at Crown Crest Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, 1 South Front St., Clearfield, PA 16830; or charity of the donor's choice.
