Constantin ARTZIBUSHEV Obituary

ARTZIBUSHEV, MD, Constantin

died on March 26, 2017. This is a tribute to a gentleman who epitomized hard work, generosity, and character. During his 96 years his journey brought him from an independent Lithuania where he was born into a prominent Russian family through the turmoils of World War II to the United States. An OB-GYN physician for over 50 years, with over 12,000 babies delivered, his fortunate arrival to Tampa Municipal Hospital in 1950 cemented his life-long love of the Tampa Bay area. A past President of the North Tampa Rotary Club, he was awarded the Richard Harris Fellow Award in 1986. Dr. Artzibushev established one of the first endowed scholarships to benefit the University of South Florida Medical School in 1974 in memory of his brother and spouse, Peter and Militza Artzybushev. The "Doc" was one of the ten original founders of Women's Hospital as well as a strong supporter of the Judeo Christian Clinic. He was one of the first doctors who, with the permission of Sister Marie Celeste of St. Joseph's Hospital, allowed husbands into the labor rooms. A veteran of the Korean War, he returned to Tampa to open his private practice in 1958.

Dr. Artzibushev is predeceased by his wife, Anastasia, and is survived by his son, Dimitri Artzibushev (Sonya); his daughter, Nadine Mamontoff (Andres); as well as grandchildren, Constantin Artzibushev, Sasha Artzibushev (Wade Hampton), Alexandra Mamontoff, and Peter Mamontoff; and great-granddaughter, Emmerson Hampton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Militza and Peter Artzibushev Scholarship in Medicine. Donations may be made at https://usffdn.usf.edu/ua-giving/ or by sending your donation to USF Health Development and Alumni Relations, 12901 Bruce B. Downs Blvd. MDC70, Tampa, FL 33612. (Please indicate 256040 in the memo portion of your check), or to the Judeo-Christian Clinic, St. John's Greek Orthodox Church, or St. Andrew's Russian Orthodox Church.

As a labor and delivery RN I was honored to have worked with Dr. Artzie, back in the eighties. I was out of town and did not realize until just yesterday that he had passed. I have the deepest respect for him as a physician and gentleman. We always had his special red rubber bulb syringe and forceps ready and always knew he had his little black book with all his patient's info in his pocket. He kept track of every baby he delivered. After he retired from OB, he always brought us freshly picked citrus from his groves. My deepest condolences to all of his family. Tampa has lost a fine physician and philanthropist.

It is with my deepest condolences that I writ this to such a wonderful Gentleman's family. Dr Artzibushev delivered all 4 of my children in addition to a couple of surgeries. He was the most patient, amazing and caring Dr. I have ever had. I would never have gone to anyone else. I was so sad when he retired . I thought the absolute world of him. He will be so missed.

While I didn't know Dr. Artzibushev, I did know Nadine, many many years ago. We each took Piano lessons from Mrs. Dworshak back in the 70s. My deepest condolences in the loss of your dad. From reading his obit it is obvious that he was a very accomplished man and from the tributes written here, very well thought of. God bless you all at this difficult time.

It is with sadness that I read of "Artzi", as we called him, and yet it is with joy that he is now in heavenly rest. Artzi was a loyal friend and a dedicated and caring physician. He often voluntarily assisted younger gynecologists and would have kept going in his 80's if the hospital would have allowed it. He was a tennis partner of mine for many years, playing up to his 90th year. His life has influenced many people and we're all thankful for having known him. My prayers for his family in their loss.

Our deepest sympathy for such a great man. He delivered our three girls one of which was a difficult birth but not for him. One of the kindest men we ever knew.

My deepest and most profound sympathy to all of his beautiful family. Dr. Artzibushev was my OB/GYN for many years, delivered both of my sons, and performed a very difficult emergency surgery on me soon after my second son was born. He was the most incredible doctor and amazing man. I was just talking about him the other day to a friend - relaying his most hilarious and sarcastic humor. I am deeply saddened by his passing. May you find peace. My prayers for all of you.

My deepest condolences Dimitri and Sonya. I have good eve memories of us all in Tampa, the lake, and all the family dinners. Constantin was always kind to us, and he even taught me to shoot a basketball on his court at the house. I remember well his sky blue convertible beetle which he loved so much. I am sure he is watching us all from Paradise.

Dr. Archie was one of the best physicians Tampa has ever seen-a kind, generous, skillful doctor with one of the largest solo practices in this community. I was privileged to be his colleague, friend and tennis partner-he held his own on the courts into his 80's. Archie, I will miss you and always treasure knowing you as a role model of a human being.

He was my Doctor in the early 60s and 70s. Just about all the women in my family went to " Dr. Archie" as we called him. He was so sweet and understanding. Prayer for his family.
