I was fortunate enough to know Craig for over 15 years. During this time we shared many journeys, some happy and pleasant and others quite sad.

I remember discussing his first few days at the Sheriff's Department. He mentioned that he was spending a good bit of time in the jail with the prisoners. He didn't know if he was supposed to be doing this, but he said that the prisoners needed his help, too. That was Craig - always compassionate, always caring, always trying to help...

I first met Craig Weisman when I was eight or nine years old. He went to Franklin Elementary, Lincoln Junior High-- and later Santa Monica High-- with me.

So many memories... At Franklin, he was nicknamed "Brownie" because of his olive skin. The girls all thought he was cute, and he had lots of friends.

At Lincoln, Craig was popular... even though he was sometimes overshadowed by his cousin, Gary. And I remember that Craig was in Boy's Honor Service, Leadership (student...

I'm one of the students from UCLA in 2004, that had the good fortune to be in Craig's class on diversity. He was a gentleman and someone whose love you could feel when you talked to him. He was passionate about his work, his students, his family and recovery. It is a loss for all of us that he has died. I want his family know that I send my condolences and that he will be missed by those of us he touched with his presence.
