I was fortunate enough to know Craig for over 15 years. During this time we shared many journeys, some happy and pleasant and others quite sad.

I remember discussing his first few days at the Sheriff's Department. He mentioned that he was spending a good bit of time in the jail with the prisoners. He didn't know if he was supposed to be doing this, but he said that the prisoners needed his help, too. That was Craig - always compassionate, always caring, always trying to help someone.

More recently we shared the birth of our daughter who has severe disabilities and he shared the special meaning that "white butterflies" had for him and Mariasha.

Craig once told me that one of his favorite places on earth was the ocean, but his most favorite place was anywhere his wife and daughter were.

Craig was a beautiful person and everyone that knew him was blessed if they could call him a friend. Our memories of him and of his laugh will be with us forever. We hope that these special memories will help each of us in the days, weeks, months, and years ahead of us.

Rest my friend and I will continue to send you and your family prayers each night as I have for many years............

I first met Craig Weisman when I was eight or nine years old. He went to Franklin Elementary, Lincoln Junior High-- and later Santa Monica High-- with me.

So many memories... At Franklin, he was nicknamed "Brownie" because of his olive skin. The girls all thought he was cute, and he had lots of friends.

At Lincoln, Craig was popular... even though he was sometimes overshadowed by his cousin, Gary. And I remember that Craig was in Boy's Honor Service, Leadership (student government), weight lifting and wrestling, was an honour student, and that he was smart but modest. He had a sharp wit and an sophisticated sense of humour.

At Samohi, Craig kind of went his own way... he didn't pose for a senior portrait in the yearbook, and he just "disappeared" off the radar (for me, at least).

But, what I most remember about Craig (as a kid) was that he was gentle, and sweet, and intelligent. I am happy to hear that he had a good life, that he married, that he had kids, and that he had friends. What more could a man ask for?

I'm one of the students from UCLA in 2004, that had the good fortune to be in Craig's class on diversity. He was a gentleman and someone whose love you could feel when you talked to him. He was passionate about his work, his students, his family and recovery. It is a loss for all of us that he has died. I want his family know that I send my condolences and that he will be missed by those of us he touched with his presence.
