Curtis J. Coney Sr.

1921 - 2016

Curtis J. Coney, Sr. passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the age of 95. He was the son of the late Alvin L. Coney and Annie Burke Coney and was preceded in death by wife of 47 years Margaret G. Coney and by second wife of 19 years Violet C. Coney. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Curtis J. Coney, Jr. and Bruce E. Coney, D.D.S. and four siblings and their spouses, Gladys C. Bradley (Burt), Alvin J. Coney (Vivian and Mary), Ruth C. Gustafson (Harry), Roy P. Coney (Georgia and Ruby). Survived by grandson Brad M. Coney (Erin), and Lance Corey, four great-grandchildren Bennett Mason, and Charlotte Coney and Evan Corey. Also survived by wonderful nephews and nieces and their spouses and daughter-in-law Barbara C. Coney. Curtis was an honorably discharged veteran of WWII, having served as a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post #6640, a member of American Legion Post #175 and the Knights of Columbus. He was a parishioner of St. Angela Merici Church where he served as an usher for 25 years. Visitation will be at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, Metairie, on Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 10:00 to 11:30 A.M. followed by a Funeral Mass. Burial will be in Lake Lawn Park.
