Dale Loftis Obituary

Loftis, Dale A.

November 25, 1933 - April 15, 2023

Dr. Dale A. Loftis, 89, was welcomed into his heavenly home on Saturday, April 15, 2023. Rev. Loftis was born in Mt. Airy, N.C. to the late Robert Houston Loftis and Ethel Doss Loftis on November 25, 1933.

The Rev. Loftis was a minister of music in several churches and was ordained as a Baptist minister in 1961. Rev. Loftis spent over 50 years serving in church ministry as a pastor and missionary. He established three churches in two different countries: Jamaica and Australia. He loved his family and involved them in his ministry as they sang and played musically together through the years.

The Rev. Loftis was known for his work with youth camps and young people, as well as for his tremendous love of people. It was said of him, "No man was a stranger in his presence." He was a faithful minister of the Gospel, a loving husband who cared for his beloved wife, JoAnn, through her battle with dementia, and a wonderful Daddy and Granddaddy to his children.

The Rev. Loftis was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 69 years, JoAnn Maner Loftis, his brothers, Bobby Hughes Loftis, Jack Anderson Loftis, and his sister, Wilma Lee Arnder. He is survived by two daughters, Deborah (Ken) Collins, Dianna, (Rev. Brian) Nester, and three sons, Dr. Michael (Jo Beth) Loftis, Rev. Timothy (Tammy) Loftis, Rev. David (Carol) Loftis; 21 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, five nieces, and 11 nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 27, at Central Baptist Church of Wendell, N.C. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m., and service at 7 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston Salem, N.C. on Saturday, April 29, at 11 a.m.

I had the joy of being Dale and JoAnn´s pastor at Salem Baptist for a few years following their retirement from Australia. He was one of my greatest sources of encouragement. I am grateful to God for him.
Judy and I look forward to attending the funeral service as the representatives of Baptist Mid-Missions.
