DAN HAZELET Obituary

Dan H. Hazelet, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away January 8, 2015, at Kansas City Hospice House in KCMO. He and his wife, Leslie, have been dedicated KU sports fans, attending many KU football and basketball games. Dan enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and recreational activities such as bowling and canoeing, and traveling to Cancun. Dan was born Feb. 25, 1943, in Ft. Wayne, Ind. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1961 and went on to serve in the Air Force, stationed in Greece, Isle of Crete. Upon completion of his service, he attended KU and graduated with a B.S. in Business in 1972. He worked as a systems analyst for the federal government (GSA) in KCMO and retired in 1997. Dan was predeceased by parents, John C. and Alma (Starke) Hazelet. He is survived by wife, Leslie, son, James Bryan (Carla) and their children, Cole and Jodie; step daughters, Diane Berg (grandchildren Riley and Thomas) and Samantha Kopek (grandchildren Taylor and Will); sister, Sharon Schick (Sherri, Lori and Cindy), brothers, Tim (Leslie) Hazelet (Derek, Jesse, Cassia, Laura, Adrea, Jordan, and Devin) and Jerry (Diane) Hazelet (Holly); and many great-nieces and great- nephews. A casual memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Red Bridge UMC, 636 E. 117th, KCMO. Donations are encouraged to Kansas City Hospice House for the loving care they provided. Dan will always be remembered as a hard-working and loyal employee and co-worker, a passionate and enthusiastic sports fan, but most of all a kind, gentle, and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Leslie and family,
It's been nearly two years since Dan's passing, but I just found out. I am so very sorry for your loss of one of the kindest, gentlest, easy going people I have ever known. I was just thinking about Dan last night and decided to google him see what I could find. I was Dan's old neighbor and friend back in 1971. We used to hang out together a lot. Later, when we were both divorced, something neither of us chose, we became room mates. Dan was always so kind to me and very generous and welcoming in a time that I really needed a good tfriend.
It's been years since I last saw him, but it feels like yesterday. I am very sad now with knowledge of his loss. I am sad also for you and Bryan, and your children, for the burden of his loss is heaviest with each of you I'm sure. I will have pleasant memories of Dan all of my remaining days.

PS, the last time I saw Dan, I believe he was with you. I was with my wife and we ran into you both at an Eagles Concert in Kansas City back in the 80s or 90s. Dan introduced you to us. Again, my sincere though belated condolences. FH.
