Scott was a friend as well as the first veterinarian I worked for. At his clinic, Scott ignited my love of veterinary emergency and critical care medicine which became a lifelong focus for me. He taught me how to suture by having me practice on oranges! Always a gentleman, he was protective of the people he cared about, escorting me to my car after a late shift and having me call when I got home.
A brilliant mind and ahead of the game when it came to technology, he was the first person I knew to have a computer (the early 1980s) which he brought to my house, set up, and told me everything it would be capable of doing in the future. It was fun seeing him in his element and so excited at the possibilities it held. Scott mastered photography as well. He invited my daughter and me to a friend's - or maybe a relative's- home for lunch where he took beautiful pictures of my daughter on a horse and walking through a field of wildflowers. Scott visited me after I moved to Atlanta and we took a drive to Helen, Georgia, to take in the autumnal colors and laugh over memories and a great meal!
From day one, we shared a warped, sarcastic sense of humor and always had interesting conversations. Sadly, we lost track of one another over the years. Having just found out that he passed away, I've been quite sad but I haven't stopped remembering the lasting, positive influences this kind, quiet guy had on me. Above all, I hope he had a good life. I'll think of him often and wish him peace.
